What Is the Savings Bolsa?
The Ministry of Education (MEC) and the federal government announced on January 14, 2025, the Savings Bolsa, an unprecedented initiative in Brazil.
This measure offers a monthly scholarship of R$ 1,050 for students who enroll in education courses recognized by the MEC through the Unified Selection System (Sisu).
The idea is simple: attract new talents to teaching and value the teaching profession, which is essential for the future of Brazilian education.
To qualify for the scholarship, students need to achieve at least 650 points on the National High School Exam (Enem).
Of this monthly amount, R$ 700 can be withdrawn directly, while the other R$ 350 will be deposited in a savings account.
The accumulated amount will be available for withdrawal up to five years after the completion of the course, provided the graduate enters a public education network.
More Teachers: Financial Incentive and More Opportunities
In addition to the Savings Bolsa, the federal government has also launched the More Teachers Scholarship.
This initiative is aimed at public network teachers and offers a monthly assistance of R$ 2,1 thousand, with the goal of filling gaps in regions lacking teachers.
Inspired by the More Doctors Program, the scholarship seeks to attract professionals to underserved areas and includes a lato sensu postgraduate program focused on teaching practice.
According to the federal government, the first payments of the Savings Bolsa will start in April 2025, with 12,000 initial vacancies being made available for the program.

A proposta federal é muito boa. Mas, se não houver política de Estado, cairá. Ademais, é preciso incentivar o retorno de muitos professores e professoras, jovens e outros, que abandonaram a profissão. O problema está no abandono de cursos, sem dúvida, mas também e particularmente, no abandono posterior. Isso é sério e grave. Senão o governo vai gastar dinheiro com pessoas que, poucos anos depois do magistério, vão, com toda certeza, abandonar a profissão assim que encontrarem outros ganhos.
