The State University of Tocantins (Unitins) has opened registrations for free English and Spanish courses. With a varied offer aimed at the community, these courses promise to enrich the participants’ resumes and provide quality training. Unitins, through its Language Center, is offering a total of 300 spots distributed between in-person and distance courses. The in-person courses take place on the Graciosa Campus in Palmas, while the online courses are conducted via Google Meet. The courses offered include Basic English I and II, Basic Libras I and II, and Basic Spanish I and II, as well as Intermediate Spanish I, all with a workload of 60 hours per semester.
The spots are distributed according to the course and time. For example, the Basic English I course has 40 spots for the evening period, while Basic English II offers 30 spots in the afternoon. The Libras and Spanish courses follow the same structure, with options for both in-person and distance learning, ensuring flexibility for students. This diverse offer meets the needs of different audiences, from high school students to education professionals and members of the external community.

The Free English and Spanish Courses Offered by the Unitins Language Center for the 2024/2 Academic Semester Are:

- Basic Libras I: 40 spots, evening (in-person)
- Basic Libras II: 30 spots, evening (in-person)
- Basic Spanish I: 40 spots, evening (distance)
- Basic Spanish II: 30 spots, evening (distance)
- Intermediate Spanish I: 30 spots, evening (distance)
Who Can Participate
To participate in the courses, candidates must meet certain requirements. The courses are open to regularly enrolled students at Unitins, technical-administrative staff, faculty, Unitins graduates, high school students, education professionals, and the general community. Candidates must also be attentive to the registration deadline and payment of the registration fee of R$ 210.00.
Additionally, Unitins is offering scholarships that waive the registration fee for candidates in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability. To request the waiver, interested individuals must prove their situation through CadÚnico and fill out the waiver request section in the Unitins Concursos e Seleções system by July 8, 2024. Applications will be reviewed between July 9 and 10, with preliminary results announced on July 11.
Candidates for the English courses, in particular, should pay attention to the selection criteria. Priority will be given to those demonstrating greater socioeconomic vulnerability, along with other criteria such as the order of registration. Classes are scheduled to begin on August 5, 2024, and end on December 6, 2024. Enrollment must be completed between July 19 and 21, upon payment of the registration fee.

Enrollment in the courses will be finalized only after payment of the registration fee, and if the number of applicants exceeds the available spots, a waiting list will be created.
