Federal Institute Is Accepting Applications for the Free Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) Course – Basic Level A2. The In-Person Classes Will Take Place at Cefor, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2 PM to 4 PM.

Have you ever thought about communicating with the deaf community and contributing to the building of a more inclusive society? The new initiative from the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES) promises to change the lives of those seeking training in accessibility.

This is a free course that could be your opportunity to learn an essential skill and transform your everyday interactions. What is behind this unique proposal and who can participate?

Free LIBRAS Course: Details and Objectives

According to IFES, applications are open for the Initial and Continuing Education Training Course (FIC) in Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), basic level – A2.

The training, which will be taught in person at the Center for Reference in Training and Distance Education (Cefor), aims to enable participants for basic communication in LIBRAS, meeting the growing demand for social inclusion and accessibility.

The course is based on legislations such as laws nº 10.098/2000, nº 10.436/2002, and nº 13.146/2015, which reinforce the importance of ensuring rights and promoting the inclusion of deaf individuals in society.

According to IFES, in addition to teaching practical notions of LIBRAS, the training also helps to understand the cultural richness of the deaf community.

Course Format and Schedule

The course will last for 15 weeks, totaling 60 hours of instruction, and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2 PM to 4 PM, in the afternoon.

According to the announcement published by IFES, classes will be in person, using interactionist methodologies to integrate theory and practice.

This means that students will not only learn the basic signs but also how to apply them in everyday situations, promoting real interactions.

According to the institution, the adopted pedagogical approach, focused on dialogue and practice, was designed to facilitate learning and create an environment of respect and appreciation for deaf culture.

Who Can Participate?

To participate, candidates need to have completed high school and be available to attend classes at the scheduled times.

IFES also recommends, but does not require, that interested individuals have already completed the basic LIBRAS course – A1.

Additionally, it is necessary to have access to a computer with internet for potential complementary activities.

The target audience is broad, encompassing professionals who want to enhance their skills and individuals who wish to learn LIBRAS out of personal interest.

Applications and Selection Process

Applications for the course started on December 20, 2024, and will go until January 16, 2025. Interested individuals must register on the official IFES website, accessible at: https://sigaa.ifes.edu.br.

If the number of applicants exceeds the 40 available spots, the selection will be made through an electronic lottery. According to the announcement, those selected will need to present the required documentation to complete their enrollment.

Certification and Benefits for Participants

Students who complete all the curricular components of the course with a score of 60 points or higher will receive a certificate within 60 days after the conclusion of classes.

In addition to enriching their resumes, the certificate is an important step for those who wish to work in areas requiring skills in inclusion and accessibility.

Why Learning LIBRAS Is So Important?

The Brazilian Sign Language is recognized as a legal means of communication in Brazil and has become a symbol of social inclusion.

Learning LIBRAS is not only a professional differential but also a way to enhance your social interaction capacity, contributing to a more equal society.

According to IFES, mastering this language strengthens bonds between hearing and deaf individuals, eliminating barriers that often hinder the integration of individuals with hearing impairments.

Don’t Miss This Opportunity

If you want to make a difference and acquire a unique skill, this is your chance. For more information about the course, please contact the official email of Cefor: selecaoextensao.cefor@ifes.edu.br.
