The Federal Institute is accepting applications for the free Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) course – Basic Level A2. In-person classes will take place at Cefor, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 14 pm to 16 pm.

Have you ever thought about communicating with the deaf community and contributing to building a more inclusive society? The new initiative of Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES) promises to change the lives of those seeking training in accessibility.

This is a free course that can be your opportunity to learn an essential skill and transform your daily interactions. What is behind this unique proposal and who can participate?

Free LIBRAS course: details and objectives

According to IFES, registrations are open for the Initial and Continuing Training Course (FIC) in Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), basic level – A2.

The training, which will be provided in person at the Reference Center for Distance Education and Training (Cefor), aims to train participants in basic communication in LIBRAS, meeting the growing demand for social inclusion and accessibility.

The course is based on legislation such as laws nº 10.098/2000, nº 10.436/2002 and nº 13.146/2015, which reinforce the importance of guaranteeing rights and promoting the inclusion of deaf people in society.

According to IFES, in addition to teaching practical notions of LIBRAS, the training also helps to understand the cultural richness of the deaf community.

Class format and schedule

The course will last 15 weeks, totaling 60 hours of teaching, and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 14 pm to 16 pm, in the afternoon.

According to the notice published by IFES, classes will be in-person, using interactionist methodologies to integrate theory and practice.

This means that students will not only learn basic signs, but also how to apply them in everyday situations, promoting real interactions.

According to the institution, the pedagogical approach adopted, focused on dialogue and practice, was designed to facilitate learning and create an environment of respect and appreciation for deaf culture.

Who can participate?

To participate, candidates must have completed high school and be available to attend classes at the scheduled time.

IFES also recommends, but does not require, that interested parties have already completed the LIBRAS basic level course – A1.

In addition, it is necessary to have access to a computer with internet for any additional activities.

The target audience is broad, ranging from professionals who want to expand their skills to people looking to learn LIBRAS for personal interest.

Registration and selection process

Registration for the course began on December 20, 2024 and will run until January 16, 2025. Interested parties must register on the official IFES website, accessible at: https://sigaa.ifes.edu.br.

If the number of applicants exceeds the 40 available places, the selection will be made through an electronic draw. According to the notice, those selected must present the required documentation to complete the registration.

Certification and benefits for participants

Students who complete all curricular components of the course with a score equal to or higher than 60 points will receive a certificate within 60 days after the end of classes.

In addition to enriching your CV, the certificate is an important step for those who want to work in areas that require skills in inclusion and accessibility.

Why is learning LIBRAS so important?

Brazilian Sign Language is recognized as a legal means of communication in Brazil and has become a symbol of social inclusion.

Learning LIBRAS is not only a professional advantage, but also a way to expand your capacity for social interaction, contributing to a more egalitarian society.

According to IFES, mastering this language strengthens ties between hearing and deaf people, eliminating barriers that often hinder the integration of individuals with hearing impairments.

Do not miss this opportunity

If you want to make a difference and acquire a unique skill, this is your chance. For more information about the course, contact Cefor via the official email: selecaoextensao.cefor@ifes.edu.br.
