A 100% Online Master’s Program With Quality and No Tuition Fees
CEFET in Rio de Janeiro brought this innovation to democratize access to postgraduate education in Brazil, offering the first free online master’s degree recognized by MEC.
The course is aimed at professionals who already have a degree and wish to specialize in highly relevant social and environmental issues, with an emphasis on sustainability and development.
The master’s in “Energy and Society” will enable students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge online, adaptable to their routines and at no cost, which enhances accessibility to higher education. Classes start in March 2025, but to secure a spot, candidates must submit their applications and documentation by January 14th.
Among the requirements are a degree recognized by MEC and basic knowledge of English, with proof of certification or a specific test during the selection process.

How the Selection Process Works
The selection process for the free online master’s at CEFET-RJ includes three main stages: curriculum analysis, research project evaluation, and English proficiency assessment.
- Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of the candidate’s academic and professional resume, focusing on relevant experiences for the course.
- Research Project Evaluation: Candidates must present a research project within one of the program’s thematic lines, which will be evaluated by the examining board.
- English Assessment: For candidates without proficiency certificates, an online text interpretation test in English will be administered, lasting 120 minutes.
These stages ensure that selected candidates have the profile and motivation necessary for the development of the academic research proposed by the program.
