Ram Will Launch New Mid-Size Pickup in 2027 in the USA and Bring the Luxury Dakota to Brazil in 2026, Strengthening Its Presence in the Pickup Market.
Ram confirmed that it will launch a new mid-size pickup in 2027, aimed at the North American market, marking the brand’s return to the segment after the Dakota ended in 2011.
The announcement was made by Stellantis CEO, Antonio Filosa, who emphasized that the model will be “simply fantastic.”
In Brazil, the news will come in parallel: the brand will bring the Dakota, derived from the Fiat Titano, expected for 2026 and with a more sophisticated proposal.

Return to the Medium Pickup Market
Ram’s plan to return to the mid-size pickup segment has been under discussion for a few years.
In 2025, Stellantis officially confirmed that the Belvidere plant in Illinois (USA) will be reopened to produce the new pickup.
The initiative aims to fill the gap left by the Dakota and compete with models like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado.
During Kepler Cheuvreux’s Autumn Conference, Filosa revealed that he closely monitored the first prototypes of the vehicle at the brand’s design center in Detroit.
According to the executive, the new pickup is “beautiful and amazing,” reinforcing the automaker’s enthusiasm for the project.
Modern Platform and Engine Options
The expectation is that the pickup will be built on the STLA Frame platform, already used in models like the Ram 1500 Ramcharger.
This base will allow combustion, plug-in hybrid, and even electric versions, offering flexibility to meet different market demands.
With dimensions ranging from 5.48 to 5.94 meters in length, the platform is designed to accommodate robust pickups.
However, the version intended for the mid-size segment will have adjustments to compete directly with Japanese and North American rivals.
Name Still Being Defined
Although the public associates the news with the name Dakota, Stellantis is expected to adopt another name for the United States.
This is because the Dakota emblem is already reserved for the model that will be launched in Brazil in 2026.
In the USA, rumors suggest that the pickup will be offered only in the double cab configuration, the most popular in the country.
The price will also be strategic: the new mid-size pickup is expected to start at around US$ 30,000, significantly lower than the discontinued 1500 Classic, the last entry-level option from the brand in the USA.
Luxury Dakota for the Brazilian Market
Meanwhile, Brazil is preparing to receive an exclusive version. Confirmed in August, the Ram Dakota will be based on the Fiat Titano but will feature more sophisticated finishing and a remodeled visual.
Produced in Córdoba, Argentina, the pickup will be equipped with a 2.2 turbo-diesel engine with 200 hp, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and 4×4 traction.
The Dakota Nightfall concept, already showcased in the country, previewed part of the design of the final version. Among the highlights are an exclusive front grille, new LED headlights, and a sporty roll bar.
Although radical elements like 33-inch tires and a front winch will not make it to the production version, the model is expected to retain much of its robust style.
Strategy Inspired by Rivals
Ram’s decision follows a trend already established in the market. Just as Toyota offers the Hilux in Brazil and the Tacoma in the USA, the brand is betting on distinct models to meet local preferences.
While in the North American market, the new mid-size pickup will seek to combine robustness and versatility, in Brazil, the Dakota will cater to those who want a refined pickup without sacrificing workhorse capability.
With competitive prices and a wide range of versions, Stellantis aims for a global repositioning of Ram, targeting not only traditional consumers but also those seeking innovation and connectivity in their pickups.
