Studies Analyze European Airlines and Show Impact of Delays, Flight Cancellations, and Passenger Experience.

Airline ranking released by international entities in 2024 and 2025 reveals which companies lead — and which disappoint — in punctuality, flight cancellations, and passenger satisfaction in Europe and globally.

The surveys, conducted by organizations specialized in consumer rights and air transport evaluation, analyze millions of flights, formal complaints, and direct surveys with travelers.

The objective is clear: to show who delivers the best service and who still needs to evolve, at a time of high demand and pressure on the sector.

The studies were conducted by AirAdvisor, Flightright, Skytrax, and AirHelp, considering criteria such as operational reliability, delays, flight cancellations, onboard experience, and customer perception.

The results help passengers make more informed decisions when planning trips.

Airline Ranking in Europe Shows Impact of Flight Cancellations

In Europe, two rankings attracted attention for their distinct methodologies but similar conclusions.

The survey by AirAdvisor evaluated 15 major European airlines based on nine criteria, including punctuality, delays, flight cancellations, comfort, safety history, price, reputation, and family policies.

According to the company, the analysis considered over 7.6 million flights between 2023 and 2024, along with 850,000 customer reviews on digital platforms.

The final score results from a weighted average, which explains why a company may have good pricing but still be poorly positioned in the overall ranking.

Among the lowest-rated were companies with strong low cost models, while traditional airlines dominated the top positions.

The leadership went to Aegean Airlines, followed by Finnair, Iberia, and Lufthansa, indicating a better balance between operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction.

Flightright Reinforces Criticism of the Reliability of European Airlines

Another relevant ranking came from Flightright, which analyzed 20 airlines in Europe using data from the first half of 2025.

Here, the focus was even more direct: reliability (delays and flight cancellations), compensation payment time, and passenger satisfaction.

In this survey, scores ranged from 1 to 5 stars, and the result showed that even companies well-rated in other rankings can perform poorly when the criteria are timeliness and consumer response.

Finnair, Vueling, and Ryanair ranked among the lowest overall scores, while Iberia, TAP, and Discover Airlines were in the group with relatively better performance.

Passenger Satisfaction Determines Skytrax European Award

On the other hand, the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2025 presented a different perspective on the sector.

Based exclusively on direct votes from passengers, the ranking surveyed travelers from over 100 nationalities between September 2024 and May 2025.

Thus, here, passenger satisfaction with cabin service, comfort, check-in, and ground handling was decisive.

The best airlines in Europe according to Skytrax were Turkish Airlines, Air France, Swiss International Air Lines, and British Airways.

Global Ranking Exposes Extremes Among Airlines

In the global scenario, the AirHelp Score 2024 broadened the debate.

The study evaluated airlines from all continents, crossing formal complaints, punctuality performance, and feedback from passengers from 54 countries.

Thus, the lowest-ranked airline in the global ranking was Tunisair, which occupied the last position among 109 companies analyzed.

Just above were companies like Buzz, Bulgaria Air, and Pegasus Airlines, all with a history of delays and high complaint volumes.

At the opposite end, the big surprise was Brussels Airlines, which took first place, surpassing Qatar Airways, the leader of the ranking since 2018.

According to AirHelp’s CEO, Tomasz Pawliszyn, the analysis aims to “encourage airlines to continuously listen to passenger feedback.”

What Rankings Tell Passengers

In summary, the rankings show that airlines can be good on price but fail on reliability, or please passengers even when facing operational challenges.

So for travelers, cross-referencing different rankings is the best strategy before purchasing a ticket.

Thus, with the increase in global air traffic and pressure for efficiency, punctuality, and respect for consumers, the data reinforces that passenger satisfaction and the reduction of flight cancellations remain the biggest challenges of modern aviation, especially in Europe.
