Mercedes-Benz Announced at CES 2023 the Development of a ‘Global’ EV Charging Network.
With the reach and critical shortage of electric vehicle chargers, following Tesla and GM, the German automaker shared plans to develop a network of 10,000 chargers by 2030, starting in the U.S. and Canada before expanding to China, Europe, and “other major markets.”
Mercedes-Benz stated that the North American part of its own branded network will eventually grow to 400 hubs with a total of 2,500 “high-power chargers” with this launch of the ‘global’ EV charging network.

The locations will have charging speeds of up to 350 kW, with up to 30 chargers at each site, the company’s press release reported. The chargers will be open to anyone, but Mercedes owners will have special treatment: they will be able to reserve stations in advance.

In a crackdown on rural areas prone to deserts, Mercedes-Benz said it was focusing the ‘global’ EV charging network on “key cities and urban population centers, near major highways, convenient retail and service destinations, including Mercedes-Benz dealer locations.”
Construction of the ‘Global’ EV Charging Network is in Partnership
Mercedes-Benz is not building its network alone. The company said it would share the cost of the North American part (“just over € 1 billion”) with Mn8 Energy. The Goldman Sachs spinoff has hundreds of solar farms and energy storage facilities in the United States.
Mercedes-Benz also named electric vehicle charger company ChargePoint as a partner in the joint venture. The automaker previously partnered with ChargePoint on another charging service, Mercedes me Charge, which roughly aggregates several existing charging networks for use by Mercedes customers.
