The EDF Norte Fluminense Power Plant Donated Dozens of Equipment to Strengthen Education in Four Schools and Other Partner Entities of the Project

The Power Plant in Schools Project is a partnership between teachers specialized in electricity generation and business professionals from the sector, aimed at promoting information and training for public school students in Rio de Janeiro about energy generation in Brazil. This initiative has not only achieved these objectives but has also generated positive results for education as a whole.

The EDF Norte Fluminense Power Plant, located in the municipality of Macaé, donated 38 computers to the schools and social entities indicated by the project. The benefiting schools are: C.E. Vanilde Natalino, C.E. Télio Barreto, C.E. Rachel Reid, C.E. Tomás Gomes, in addition to the Instituto Federal Fluminense de Campos polo Guarus and the Inovar e Aprender Project.

The director of Télio Barreto school, Ana Cristina, celebrated the donation of the computers and stated that the equipment will strengthen the daily operations of the unit. “The computers arrived at just the right time and will help a lot at the school. Education is grateful,” comments the manager. The unit has students participating in the project every Saturday from 8 am to noon.

The Power Plant in Schools Project promotes classes and lectures in four modules, with the distribution of workbooks, in addition to videos that contribute to the classes, and technical visits, so that students have an immersive experience regarding energy generation in Brazil.

In a statement sent to the report of the Click Petróleo e Gás portal, EDF Norte Fluminense, which has had a power plant in operation since 2004 in Macaé, stated that it has always sought to contribute far beyond the generated energy, stimulating the development of surrounding communities through sociocultural and environmental initiatives.

The Dream of Making the Project Grow Even More

After completing the modules, students are tested on citizenship and other topics related to electricity covered in the classes. The youth also create a project on alternative electricity, thus encouraging them to understand the concept of clean energy and its importance for a sustainable society.

One of the Responsibles for the Power Plant in Schools, Pedro Costa, said that the project is growing. “We are very happy with the results. We invite businessmen to support and sponsor the project that, in addition to Macaé, will go to Carapebus and Campos dos Goytacazes in 2023, where the first public lighting service in South America was carried out by Dom Pedro II. At that time, electricity was generated by steam from wood boilers.

“Our main objective is to reach students from state schools in all 92 municipalities of the state of Rio de Janeiro. And we will succeed because the project captivates students to discover the universe of electricity through teachers, videos, workbooks, technical visits, and soon, a groundbreaking video game project that we are implementing,” Costa says enthusiastically.

The responsible parties for the Power Plant in Schools project thank the partnerships with the companies AGR Instrumentações, Escola José Rodrigues, Laboratório Tesalab, Fox Treinamentos, New Bike, and the Click Petróleo e Gás portal, which has been helping to promote this great initiative.
