Scientists drilled nearly 8,000 meters into the ocean floor above the fault that caused the 2011 tsunami in Japan and discovered that a layer of clay 130 million years old was responsible for making the wave much worse than any model had predicted.
Externally, the new British battle tank features a motorized turret equipped with sloped frontal and side armor to deflect enemy fire, along with state-of-the-art protection. Declared as the most lethal tank in the world by the United Kingdom, the Challenger 3 also has the capability to use programmable ammunition, allowing it to hit targets with precision and efficiency.
New Battle Tank from The United Kingdom Can Enter Service by 2040
The Challenger 3 battle tank features enhanced digital communications, a new hydraulic system, and a 26.1-liter diesel V12 engine (Perkins CV12-9A). However, the most significant innovation of the vehicle is its 120 mm L55A1 gun.
Its Israeli protection system uses a ring of sensors to identify and intercept missiles or rockets that are approaching while still in the air. Eight prototypes of the vehicle have been delivered so far. To date, 148 units have been ordered.
According to the British military, this most lethal battle tank in the world is sufficient to fulfill any mission “thanks to its speed, maneuverability, survivability, firepower, and accuracy.”
The estimate is that the Challenger 3 tank from the United Kingdom will operate from 2027 to 2040. With the growing global instability, Britain is one of the governments that has increased its defense budget and is betting on advanced military technology, including laser weapons, hypersonic systems, and new missiles.
It is expected that new weapons will also be ready by 2027. According to Defense Secretary Grant Shapps, in a more dangerous world, the need for vehicles like the Challenger 3 is imperative as the threats the United Kingdom faces evolve.
