A classic car, restored in the interior of São Paulo, won one of the most prestigious awards in the world of vintage cars. The 1928 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A SS Guida Interna Sport, with nearly a century of history, received the Lap of the Luxury award at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held in California, United States.
The vehicle is part of the collection of the CARDE — Arte Design Museum, in Campos do Jordão/SP, and was taken to the competition after a long restoration process.

Its models attracted attention for their robust construction and performance, which ensured notoriety in the international market.
In 1924, the brand launched the Tipo 8A, equipped with a V8 7.4-liter engine, two carburetors for each bank, and a power output of 160 hp. The vehicle could reach up to 160 km/h, impressive numbers for the time.
João Ribeiro de Barros and the Historic Chassis
The history of the award-winning car begins with Brazilian aviator João Ribeiro de Barros, who acquired chassis 1532 in 1928.
The model received an exclusive design developed by Carrozzeria Italiana Cesare Sala, from Milan.
Ribeiro de Barros was already internationally known for his feat in 1927 when he led the first non-stop flight across the South Atlantic.
The accomplishment was made in the seaplane Jahú, a Savoia-Marchetti S.55 equipped with Isotta Fraschini engines.
Restorations and New Recognition
Over the decades, the Tipo 8A passed through different collectors and various restorations. The most recent challenge was taken on by PJS Restorations, responsible for returning the car to its original form in a job that lasted two full years.
After participating in the California concours, the car will return to the workshop for a new review before going back to the museum’s collection in Campos do Jordão.
Thus, the global recognition consolidates the relevance of Brazilian restoration and reinforces the historical value of the vehicle.
Value and Legacy of Isotta Fraschini
The exact value of the car has not been disclosed. However, the auction house Bonhams recently offered a similar model for 280 thousand dollars, equivalent to about R$ 1.7 million.
In addition to luxury cars, Isotta Fraschini also manufactured trucks and engines for passenger airplanes, remaining a reference in the sector.
The brand, established over 120 years ago, is still active today, preserving its tradition linked to innovation and performance.
