Renault Confirms Future of Duster After Arrival of Boreal and Surprises the Automotive Market with Renewal Plans.
Renault Keeps Duster Alive After Arrival of Boreal and Promises Future Renewal, Says CEO
What will happen to the Renault Duster? Who answered this question, when it was revealed, where the announcement took place, how the brand intends to act, and why the strategy impacts the automotive market?
The answer came this week when Ariel Montenegro, CEO of Renault-Geely Brazil, stated in an interview with the Podcast do Motor1.com Brasil that the Duster will remain in the portfolio, even after the debut of the new medium SUV Boreal, and will have a new generation in the future, though still without a set date.
This decision, according to him, is due to the fact that the Duster maintains commercial strength, loyal audience, and a strategic role within the brand’s lineup.
This confirmation, therefore, reorganizes the entire hierarchy of Renault and places the Duster at the center of discussions about the future of the SUV market in the country.

“We Will Not Abandon It”: Duster Remains a Key Player
Ariel Montenegro got straight to the point.
“The life cycle is not over yet and, at some point, there will be a renewal of the Duster. We will not abandon it,” he stated.
According to him, the model remains valued for delivering trust, durability, and good cost-effectiveness, qualities that continue to attract thousands of buyers.
Furthermore, the Duster maintains significant commercial results.
“We sell over 1,500 units every month. Just in September, there were over 1,700,” the CEO highlighted.
These numbers, on the other hand, show that the SUV still has solid space in the automotive market.
Duster Becomes a Link Between Kardian and Boreal
Renault’s strategy is now clear.
With Kardian as the entry-level SUV and the new Boreal occupying the premium segment, the Renault Duster serves as a natural intermediary between the two.
Thus, the model avoids a “price void” within the range.
Currently, the Kardian costs between R$ 113,690 and R$ 149,990, while the Boreal ranges from R$ 179,990 to R$ 214,990.
In this interval, only the Duster fits, justifying its continued presence.
Currently, the SUV starts at R$ 141,990 in the 1.6 MT version and goes up to R$ 161,900 in the Iconic 1.3 TCe — the same engine as the Boreal, but with a CVT transmission, which further enhances its appeal.
Changes on the Horizon: New Generation is “Inevitable”
Although Montenegro confirmed the continuity of the model, the scenario points to transformations.
The current generation, launched in 2020, already shows signs of aging, especially in technology, in addition to not yet utilizing the RGMP platform, a modular base that equips Renault’s latest launches.
Therefore, it is natural for the brand to analyze the adoption of the new generation of the European Duster, which is already circulating in some global markets.
The model has, in fact, been seen in Brazil during testing, although Montenegro downplayed it:
“We test many vehicles here, but not all are for Brazil. We have a large engineering operation that serves other markets as well.”
Global Automotive Market Reinforces Strength of Renault
Even with Dacia origins, the SUV continues to be sold as Renault in strategic regions — including South America, where it recently arrived in Colombia.
This global presence, therefore, increases the chances of its renewal in Brazil.
Moreover, the dimensions of the new generation show that the Duster would not cannibalize either Kardian or Boreal.
The European model has:
- 4,343 mm in length
- 1,810 mm in width
- 1,656 mm in height
- 2,657 mm in wheelbase
- 472 liters of trunk space
These numbers reinforce its intermediate position within the Renault family.
Boreal Changes the Game, but Duster Remains Strong
The arrival of the Boreal SUV indeed reorganizes Renault’s catalog, but, contrary to what was speculated, the Duster will not be replaced.
The brand understands that the model still delivers competitive advantages and, therefore, will continue investing in it.
At the end of the interview, Montenegro assured once again:
“The Duster will not leave our portfolio. At some point, it will be renewed, but we do not yet know when or how that will happen.”
Thus, the future of the Renault Duster remains alive — and more relevant than ever — within the automotive market.

Ja o Ncap test permanece três. 3!!!!!!
