Candidates Will Receive Over $2,000 to Stay 24h Without Using Electronic Devices. Project Has Applications for US Residents

A challenge has been launched by the company Reviews.org, which tests household products and services, for candidates willing to undergo a digital detox. This means that interested participants will have to go without using their cell phones, computers, or any smart devices for 24 hours and will receive $2,000 to survive an entire day without using electronic equipment.

“If you want to leave your devices for a day but still need to get paid, this is the perfect opportunity for you,” the company wrote on its website, where aspiring digital detox participants can sign up.

“Have you always wanted to win reality competitions like American Ninja Warrior but have been too busy trying to win Mario Kart and Mortal Kombat?” asks Reviews.org to potential candidates.

“Do you know a little too much about your old friends on social media?”

For Reviews.org, the ideal candidate is someone who “definitely enjoys technology” and is ready for a challenge. And while it may seem easy to detox from Instagram for a day, the challenge is a bit more complex.

Candidates for the Positions Will Have to Stay 24h Without Using Electronics

Participants will need to turn off their cell phones, go without television, games, computers, watches, and smart home devices (including modern speakers). However, according to the company, the microwave can be used.

The company will store the candidates’ electronics in a safe for 24 hours, along with a $200 gift card (nearly R$ 1,100) from Amazon to create a “survival kit” without technology, the company stated.

Some suggested survival kit items from Reviews.org include a typewriter to replace computers, paper for text messages, and paint and brushes to replace the fine art of selfies.

Those challenged for the positions will need to evaluate the survival kit and provide feedback on their experience after completing the challenge – but they will do this while holding the coveted title of “Digital Detox Competitor 2021.”

The Company’s Challenge in the US Comes at a Time When “Screen Time” Takes on a New Meaning.

Electronic devices have become more necessary than ever, with the new pandemic scenario increasing remote work and the use of online classes.

US teenagers spent, on average, over 7 hours a day on electronic devices just for entertainment, a 2019 report from the nonprofit organization Common Sense Media states. “We feel that someone needs a break,” writes Reviews.org.

Requirements: To apply for the positions, the company asks US residents for some personal information and a 100-word text on why you are the right person for the challenge – you also need to have legal authorization to work in the United States.

Application: Applications are open until March 26 at this link and the winners will be announced on the company’s YouTube page on March 29. Remember that the positions are for US residents.
