Since July, food and beverage industries and wholesale and retail companies have been expanding their capacities by leasing temporary warehouses to meet the expected growth in physical and online commerce sales, from the sale in November until the end of year festivities.

With the full resumption of retail, the advancement of vaccination throughout the country and the economic optimism generated by the proximity of important dates, such as Black Friday and the Christmas and New Year festivities, food and beverage industries and wholesale and retail companies are in the target of high demands. And to serve the final consumer, with guaranteed stock, fast delivery and good prices, since July many companies have been expanding their storage capacity so that there is nothing missing on the tables and in the homes of Brazilians.

Large national players and infrastructure and service providers prepare well in advance for the year-end storage peaks, a plan carried out at the beginning of the first half of the year, explains logistics specialist Sergio Gallucci: “In the beverage segment, for example , we have the “summer plan”, which runs from spring until a little after carnival and moves the entire ******: raw materials, production, bottling, preparation and storage, be it containers, crates, glass packaging , finished products, distributors and supermarkets, among many other items”.

According to Gallucci, one of the solutions most used today by the market to expand inventory and storage capacity is to lease warehouses for a certain period of time, given the flexibility of use and speed of installation. “In addition to setting up a warehouse of this type on any floor, for any type of company, it is possible to structure a 1-square-meter warehouse in less than a week,” he points out.

Also according to the specialist, who is also Commercial and Marketing director at Tópico, a national leader in the manufacture and rental of flexible sheds and coverings, the second half is responsible for 77,5% of the projects carried out annually for the food and drinks. “The volume assembled in this period, considering the average of the years 2019, 2020 and the 2021 projection, will be three times greater than our entire delivery in the first six months of the year, such is the impact of the festivities and the increase brought by seasonality.

Cost X benefit

There are several reasons why companies choose this business model. The main one, recalls the executive, is the need to increase its own inventory capacity quickly. “But other strategic factors are taken into account, such as the control of the logistics operation within the client's own site, the reduction in the final total cost of the logistics operation, since the tarpaulin warehouse has more competitive prices than masonry and spaces in logistics condominiums , and the possibility of having a contract adjusted according to the period of use. Finally, the benefit of being able to change the size, layout and type of stored product very quickly is another point of differentiation”, concludes Gallucci.
