In The Fight Are Foreign And Brazilian Companies To Explore Exploration Blocks On Land And At Sea. The Sector’s Comeback Is Coming.
The 14th round of auctions to bid on exploration blocks for oil and gas will kick off on September 27, according to the official announcement from ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) released today (9) on the agency’s website.
Among the competing companies, are renowned and prestigious operators in the market such as BP, Repsol, Total, Exxon Mobil, Shell, and Petrobras. Of all the companies competing in the auctions, only 3 of them are Brazilian. Of all the foreign companies in the bidding, only 3 of them have never had any type of contract to produce or explore hydrocarbons in our national territory. These newcomers here are Wintershall, EA Deutsche Erdoel AG, and Petronas Carigali. The ANP also adds that on the dates in August referring to days 16, 23, and 25, other companies will enter this calculation for new bidding assessments. At the moment, 36 oil companies have registered for these and future rounds of bidding.

But What Is The Importance Of These Auction Rounds?
One of the highlights of this year’s auction marathon is that foreign companies will also be able to compete for exploration blocks, which total 287 in 29 regions and 9 basins. The total area up for bidding reaches an impressive 122,622.40 square kilometers. Of these blocks, there will be 110 blocks at sea and 177 on land. The basins to be explored will include Campos, Espírito Santo, Santos, Sergipe-Alagoas, Paraná, Parnaíba, Potiguar, and Recôncavo. Another significant novelty is that small, medium, and large companies will also participate. As there are 177 blocks on land, it won’t necessarily be required to have CBSP and HUET courses to work in the oil sector, for example.
