State Government, Through Fapesc, Launches Notices to Structure New Laboratories and Strengthen Existing Ones in Higher Education Institutions, Focusing on Building a Robust Scientific Infrastructure.
The Government of Santa Catarina announced a significant investment of R$ 54 million. The amount will be allocated to the development of innovative scientific research. The Foundation for Research and Innovation Support of the State of Santa Catarina (Fapesc) will officially launch two notices this Monday, the 26th. The event will take place at 11 a.m. in the auditorium of the Álvaro de Carvalho Theater. The notices aim to build and structure new multi-user laboratories. They also seek to strengthen those already existing in universities and higher education centers, whether public or private non-profit, located in the state.
Fapesc Launches Strategic Notices for Universities and Higher Education Centers
Research funding in Santa Catarina gains new momentum. Fapesc presents two crucial notices. They focus on scientific research infrastructure. The action aims to enhance laboratories throughout the state.
The State Government’s investment in multi-user laboratories began in 2023. It started with the launch of the Multilab SC Program. In 2025, the initiative underwent changes. Resources were divided into two new notices.

Details of Investments for the Construction of Laboratories: Notices 29/2025 and 30/2025
The first, notice 29/2025, is part of the Academic Structuring Program for Multi-user Laboratories Dedicated to Advanced Research – Multilab 2nd edition. It has a funding of R$ 42 million. This amount is directed to university projects.
The second, notice 30/2025, is brand new. It is the Program for Structuring Multi-user Laboratories for Higher Education Centers in Santa Catarina. R$ 12 million will be allocated for projects from higher education centers.
Fábio Wagner Pinto, president of Fapesc, emphasizes the origin of the Multilab Program. “It was born out of the need of research institutions,” he states. He mentions the importance for postgraduate programs in strengthening infrastructure and equipment. “The result of the first notice was incredible,” he adds. There was strengthening of laboratories and the creation of a network of researchers. “Now, in 2025, we are launching these two new notices, focusing on a new phase of investments,” he concludes.
Priority Areas and Comprehensive Regional Impact
The notices include specific funding lines. For new laboratories, the axes are: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, health, urban mobility and smart cities, and energy transition. These resources can be used for the implementation of the space or improvement of the existing laboratory structure, including the necessary physical construction.
There is also funding for the strengthening of existing multi-user laboratories. These can be from various fields of knowledge.
Valeska Tratsk, director of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Fapesc, reinforces the government’s commitment. “Multi-user laboratories are designed to meet demands and foster regional potential,” she says. She believes they promote institutions, professors, students, and the community. “Connections and partnerships will bring solutions and development to the entire state,” she concludes.
Both notices are open to projects from institutions in the six mesoregions of Santa Catarina. They are: North, South, Mountain, West, Florianópolis, and Itajaí Valley. Fapesc aims to support the structuring of laboratories that can be used by different sectors of the same institution or by different institutions. The goal is to encourage advanced and innovative research. It is also sought that the structure serves to provide services to entities and companies.
Strengthening the Santa Catarina CTI Ecosystem
The investment aims to solidify the state research network. The construction of new spaces and the modernization of current ones are fundamental steps. A significant advance in scientific and technological production in Santa Catarina is expected. The focus is to generate innovative solutions for society.
How Institutions Can Participate in the Notices
For notice 29/2025 (Universities), up to R$ 42 million will be allocated. Each selected project may receive up to R$ 3 million. Proposals must undergo an internal selection by the higher education institution (IES). Each IES may pre-select up to eight proposals. These will be forwarded to the notice of the Multilab SC Program. Proposals may encompass Line I (new laboratories), Line II (strengthening of existing ones), or both.
In the case of notice 30/2025 (Higher Education Centers), the funding is up to R$ 12 million. Each selected proposal will receive up to R$ 2 million. Projects must also go through internal selection at the Higher Education Center. Each institution may pre-select up to five proposals. The funding lines are similar: Line I for new shared-use laboratories and Line II for strengthening existing ones.
