Santo André Inaugurates New Solar Plant, Generating Clean Energy for Thousands of Residents While Promoting Savings and Transforming Degraded Area into a Leisure and Community Park

On September 6, 2025, the City Hall of Santo André officially inaugurated the fourth unit of the Solar Energy Production Park, located in the Cidade São Jorge neighborhood.

The project, which occupies an area previously degraded by illegal waste disposal, now houses a solar plant capable of generating clean energy and promoting significant savings for public funds. The initiative reinforces the municipal strategy for sustainability, urban transformation, and investment in renewable sources.

Solar Plant Marks a New Chapter for Santo André

The new structure features 2,352 photovoltaic panels. The facility has a capacity of 1.20 MWp, sufficient to supply approximately 3,000 households per month, benefiting around 12,000 residents of the area. This is the fourth plant of the project, which already totals 8,820 installed panels throughout the city.

According to the City Hall, the total investment was R$ 41 million, with an expected return in 7.4 years. The estimate is that over the 30-year lifespan of the park, the municipality will achieve R$ 138 million in savings from reduced electricity costs.

Solar Energy and Benefits for the Population

The highlight of the initiative is not only the generation of solar energy, but also the positive environmental and social impact. The land, which in the past suffered from soil contamination and illegal disposal, has been restored and transformed into a public use space. In addition to the solar plant, the site gained leisure areas with sports courts, outdoor fitness equipment, a children’s playground, and a walking path.

This integration between sustainability and quality of life reflects a trend in cities seeking innovative solutions for utilizing degraded areas. The combination of clean energy with community spaces amplifies the benefits of the investment, which goes beyond savings and energy generation.

With the delivery of the fourth plant, Santo André strengthens its environmental commitment and increases its own energy generation capacity. The project gathers data that reinforces its relevance:

  • More than 8,820 installed photovoltaic panels;
  • Capacity to serve 12,000 residents;
  • R$ 41 million investment;
  • Estimate of R$ 138 million in savings over 30 years.

Santo André as a Reference in Clean Energy

The Solar Energy Production Park places the municipality in a standout position on the national scene. Few Brazilian cities have such a well-structured and long-term public generation project. With this initiative, Santo André reinforces its image as an innovative city committed to the environment.

In addition to contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the project offers a replicable model for other metropolitan regions. The energy transition is gaining momentum in the country, and the Santo André example shows that investments in public solar plants can yield significant results in sustainability and savings.

Environmental and Social Impacts of the Solar Plant

The installation of the new plant directly contributes to mitigating climate change. It is estimated that the generation of renewable energy will avoid the emission of thousands of tons of CO₂ over the lifespan of the facility. This helps offset part of the impact of the Brazilian electricity matrix, which still relies on sources like hydroelectric and thermal plants.

From a social perspective, the transformation of the degraded area into a sustainable park offers the community a safe and revitalized space. Families, youth, and the elderly now have access to leisure, sports, and community engagement, reducing the vulnerability of a territory previously marked by environmental neglect.

One of the key points of the inauguration is the expected savings. With its own energy production, Santo André will be able to drastically reduce expenses on electricity in public buildings and services. The estimate of R$ 138 million in direct and indirect benefits over three decades represents an intelligent way to manage municipal resources.

This result also creates a multiplier effect: with lower energy costs, the municipality can direct more resources to essential areas such as health, education, and urban mobility.

Santo André and the Future of Solar Energy

The inauguration of the fourth plant of the Solar Energy Production Park is a milestone in Santo André’s journey towards a sustainable city model. The initiative combines environmental responsibility, technological innovation, and social commitment, creating a legacy that can inspire other municipal administrations.

More than just reducing costs, the project symbolizes a new way of thinking about urban space, transforming degraded areas into hubs of clean energy and community well-being. For the population, the impact is visible: renewable energy, accessible leisure, and a city better prepared for future environmental challenges.

Santo André Expands Reference in Solar Energy

The delivery of the fourth solar plant reinforces the importance of integrated public policies capable of uniting the environment, innovation, and quality of life. The investment of R$ 41 million, with an expected return in less than a decade, demonstrates that the bet on renewable sources is economically viable and environmentally necessary.

The Solar Energy Production Park has already established itself as a national reference in clean energy projects. With the new structure, the city expands its generation capacity, strengthens its commitment to sustainability, and offers the population a leisure and community space in an area previously forgotten. This is an important step toward a greener, more resilient, and innovative city.
