A New Railway Project Is Winning Hearts in the State of São Paulo, Offering a Unique Opportunity to Travel to Historical Destinations with a Simple Passport, That Promises to Rescue History and Connect Cultures Through Unforgettable Tracks.

São Paulo Has Just Launched a New Project for Train Travel Enthusiasts: the Sao Paulo Railway Passport.

The launch took place on Monday (14), during the WTM Latin America 2025, an event held at the Expo Center Norte, and promises to transform the way Paulistas and tourists explore the state.

With the passport, travelers will have the opportunity to explore not only the history of trains but also some of the most beautiful and historic destinations in São Paulo.

The Department of Tourism and Travel of the State of São Paulo (Setur-SP) is responsible for this initiative, which aims to revive the railway tradition of the state.

“The State of São Paulo has its history closely linked to trains and offers different route options, from the countryside to the coast. Railway tourism is a major bet by the Government of São Paulo, as it values municipalities, revives the culture of train travel, boosts the local economy, and generates jobs and income,” said Roberto de Lucena, Secretary of Tourism of the state.

What Is the São Paulo Railway Passport?

The Railway Passport is a pocket guide that brings together the main tourist railway routes of the state, allowing tourists and residents to explore various cities and historic locations.

The project includes a series of exclusive discounts and benefits for passport holders, including discounts of up to 20% on train tickets and personalized stamps for each trip.

This passport works similarly to a conventional passport: travelers will be able to register their personal details and earn a stamp for each trip they take.

The idea is to encourage tourists to discover and value the less explored destinations in São Paulo while promoting the revival of the state’s railway culture.

Additionally, the São Paulo Railway Passport offers discounts on 14 services related to historic trains in 12 Paulista municipalities. Among the available destinations are rides to Jundiaí, Mogi das Cruzes, Paranapiacaba, as well as Santos and Sorocaba.

How to Obtain the Railway Passport

To obtain the Paulista Railway Passport, simply access the official project page, download and print the passport.

The process is simple and quick, and once printed, travelers can start enjoying the advantages of exploring the historical destinations of the state with exclusive discounts and benefits.

Partnerships That Make the Project Possible

The Railway Passport is the result of a strategic partnership between Setur-SP, the Brazilian Association of Tourist and Cultural Train Operators (ABOTTC), the Metropolitan Transport Secretariat (STM), and the Paulista Company of Metropolitan Trains (CPTM).

This collaboration aims not only to revive São Paulo’s railway culture but also to boost regional tourism, generating jobs and income for various Paulista municipalities.

The Impact of Railway Tourism in São Paulo

Railway tourism is one of the most authentic ways to experience the history and culture of a region.

With the Railway Passport, the state of São Paulo reinforces the importance of trains as symbols of its past and simultaneously opens doors to a new way of exploring the state.

The project offers a complete experience, allowing tourists to discover both the most famous sights and the lesser-explored areas of São Paulo.

This initiative has the potential to stimulate the local economy, benefit regional commerce, and encourage the preservation of historical heritage.

Railway tourism is undoubtedly a smart bet for the future of the state.
