Study Reveals The Highest And Lowest Salaries In Brazil Based On 428 Professions — Train Engineers Lead With R$ 24 Thousand, While 25 Jobs Earn Below The Minimum Wage
A survey based on data from PNAD Contínua of IBGE showed which professions have the highest salaries in Brazil. The study was conducted by economist Bruno Imaizumi from the consulting firm LCA 4intelligence, using microdata from IBGE and information from the Classification of Occupations of Household Surveys (COD).
Top 3 Includes Train Engineers And Doctors
At the top of the list are navigation train engineers, with an average income of R$ 24,686. The second position is occupied by general directors and general managers, who earn an average of R$ 20,678. Specialist doctors follow closely, with a monthly income of R$ 20,140.
All values have been adjusted for inflation and represent the real gross income of each occupation. The data highlights that these professions can pay up to 16 times more than the current minimum wage of R$ 1,518.

List Of The 20 Highest Paying Professions
Among the 20 highest incomes, there are also mining managers (R$ 19,417), judges (R$ 19,029), and research and development professionals (R$ 16,608). Other highlights include chemical engineers (R$ 13,965), economists (R$ 14,487), and general practitioners (R$ 14,711).
The list also includes philosophers, historians, and political science specialists, with an average salary of R$ 15,000. Clerks, financial managers, and legal professionals also feature among the best salaries.
Below The Minimum Wage
On the other end of the survey, out of the 428 professions analyzed, 25 registered an average income below the minimum wage. Salaries ranged from R$ 1,513 to R$ 405 monthly.
Among the occupations with the lowest pay are childcare workers (R$ 1,395), street vendors (R$ 1,233), fishermen (R$ 849), and companions, who appear with the lowest value in the survey, R$ 405.
A Quarter Of Professions Earn Up To 1.5 Minimum Wage
About 25% of the analyzed occupations showed earnings of up to R$ 2,777, or up to 1.5 minimum wage. Among these professions are hairdressers (R$ 2,232), gas station attendants (R$ 2,135), and sales assistants (R$ 2,186). Informality was cited as the main factor for the low salaries in these sectors.
