BYD Hybrid Sedan Undergoes Adjustments to Meet Proconve L8, Gains Equipment, and Costs Up to R$ 16 Thousand Less
The BYD King 2026 debuts in the Brazilian market with strategic changes that balance price, performance, and efficiency to remain competitive against the leader Toyota Corolla. Now cheaper and with new equipment, the hybrid model has lost power in its combustion engine to comply with the new emission rules of Proconve L8.
Even with the reduction in the thermal engine’s power, the sedan maintained the combined power with the hybrid system and continues to deliver good autonomy, onboard technology, and sophisticated finish. The new line is already available at the brand’s dealerships with prices starting from R$ 169.990.
Technical Change and Price Adjustment

To comply with the stricter Proconve L8 standards, in effect since January 2025, the aspirated 1.5 engine of the BYD King had its power reduced from 110 hp to 98 hp, and torque fell from 13.5 kgfm to 12.5 kgfm. The electric motor, however, remained unchanged, ensuring combined power of 209 hp in the GL version and 235 hp in the GS.

Despite the loss of performance in the thermal engine, the combined autonomy remains at 1,200 km, according to the manufacturer, and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h remains competitive: 7.9 seconds in the entry version and 7.3 seconds in the top version.
The new model arrives with up to R$ 16 thousand price reduction compared to the 2025 line:
GL – from R$ 179,900 to R$ 169,990
GS – from R$ 191,900 to R$ 175,990
Energy Consumption and Electric Autonomy

The energy consumption remains one of the main attractions of the model. According to Inmetro, the efficiency figures are:
GL: 17.1 km/l in the city and 13.6 km/l on the highway
GS: 16.4 km/l urban and 12.9 km/l road
The electric autonomy is 35 km in the GL version and 78 km in the GS, with Blade type batteries of 8.3 kWh and 18.3 kWh, respectively.
Visual and Finish Remain
Visually, the BYD King 2026 has hardly changed. The only novelty is in the redesigned 17-inch wheels. The rest of the design remains with straight lines, chrome grille, shiny black bar at the front, and lights connected by a light strip at the back.
The abbreviation “Build Your Dreams” has been removed from the rear lid, leaving only the brand logo, in a standardization that is already seen in other BYD models in Brazil.
Inside, there were no changes: soft-touch materials, ambient lighting on the dashboard, elevated center console, and the known 12.8” rotating screen for the multimedia system continue to make up the cabin. The interior space remains at 4.78 m in length and 2.72 m in wheelbase, surpassing the Toyota Corolla in dimensions.
Equipment and Versions
The GL version already comes with a complete technology and safety package:
6 airbags, 360° camera, traction and stability control, keyless entry, tire pressure sensor, parking sensor with 6 radars
Full LED headlights, electric trunk opening, driver’s seat with electric adjustment, 1-zone air conditioning with rear outlet
12.8” rotating multimedia system with GPS, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 4G, voice commands, and NFC card
D-Link intelligent driving system and induction charger
The GS version adds:
2-zone air conditioning, multicolored ambient lighting, passenger seat with electric adjustment, V2L function (power discharge to other equipment), and sound with 8 speakers
Is the BYD King 2026 Worth It?
With an aggressive pricing positioning, even after the power reductions, the BYD King 2026 still stands as one of the most complete options among medium hybrids. The efficient consumption, high autonomy, and technological package reinforce its appeal as an alternative to the Toyota Corolla — especially among those who value innovation and connectivity.
Do you agree with this change? Do you think the loss of power compensates for the discount in price? Leave your opinion in the comments — we want to hear from those who live this experience.
