According to IBP data, between 2016 and 2022, the onshore market is currently responsible for 6% of the total production of oil and natural gas, and independent operators were responsible for a 30% increase in onshore production. Today, independent oil and natural gas companies operate 179 fields and have experienced considerable growth, driven by the acquisition of assets from Petrobras, under the disinvestment plan initiated in 2015 during the Dilma administration.
According to ABPIP, the Brazilian Association of Independent Oil and Gas Producers, the production of oil and natural gas by these companies, spread across various regions of Brazil, is currently 150,000 barrels of oil per day and has the potential to reach 500,000 by 2029.

Also according to ABPIP data, there will be investments of R$40 billion until 2029 in projects that stimulate production growth, increasing the recovery factor and expanding the lifespan of land fields.
According to Anabal Santos, executive secretary of the Brazilian Association of Independent Producers: “Independent producers are leading the resumption of investments in Brazilian onshore, stimulating production chains and creating a more diverse and competitive business environment. The actions of these companies represent significant movements toward a more open market, promoting growth and economic development, with job and income generation for thousands of people,” concluded the specialist.
Anabal also emphasized that junior oils have been training professionals, generating jobs — approximately 315,000 in total — and economically collaborating with the community in each region where they operate.
In conclusion, the executive secretary states that the expansion of independent operators has brought economic, environmental, and social benefits that positively impact the lives of thousands of people, with numerous projects that prioritize better quality of life and the sustainable development of the local population.
Projects Developed By Oil And Gas Companies That Focus On Society
There are active projects that contribute to a more just and equal society, fighting for every citizen’s rights.
PetroReconcavo, for example, supports the Ciranda Viva Recôncavo Project in Bahia, with numerous projects that promote sports, the environment, and culture.
In addition to maintaining the Viva Sabiá program in Rio Grande do Norte, which carries out campaigns for resource preservation, access to purified drinking water through solar radiation, cisterns, renovations of water tanks and artesian wells.
The project will also undergo expansion with the help of the Banco do Brasil Foundation, which will provide 960,000 liters of water for domestic consumption and support an agroecological production unit.
