Large operators such as Petrobras, including contractors under maintenance contracts, are experiencing the direct impacts of the pandemic recession, especially those working in the oil capital, Macaé-RJ. Elfe Engenharia will begin laying off over 300 workers from its operational staff starting this Monday (30) due to uncertainties in the coming months.

“Good evening! I would like to express concern for the workers being laid off en masse from Elfe! More than 300 people already have a WORKPLACE HEALTH CERTIFICATE (ASO) scheduled for March 30. Many are still on their days off, as in my case. The information is due to the lack of response from Petrobras regarding the maintenance of existing production halt contracts for the P-58″, reported a contact from CPG.

Employees were counting on this contract ending in June of this year, and from there, they would go into the pre-shutdown of P-57, also from Petrobras. Workers are receiving layoff notices by email and an ASO guide. All are being summoned to undergo ASO on 04/01. Besides concerns about employment, many are worried because the city is in a state of quarantine, making it difficult for employees to travel to the site.
Despite the socio-economic problems caused by the spread of Covid-19, Petrobras’s operations cannot stop for too long.
