Starting in July 2025, users of compatible smartphones will be able to connect to the internet for free via satellite, thanks to an agreement between the U.S. operator T-Mobile and the Starlink satellite network from SpaceX. The news was announced by outlets such as the portal O Antagonista and confirmed in interviews and materials from specialized press, such as the sites UAI and EM Brasil.
This initiative aims to benefit mainly residents of remote areas or those without traditional mobile network coverage, leveraging Starlink’s orbital infrastructure, which already operates with thousands of low-orbit satellites. The connection will be made directly from cell phones, without the need for antennas or additional devices.
Cellphones Compatible with the Starlink Service
The list of smartphones eligible to use Starlink’s service is broad and includes popular brands in Brazil. According to a survey by EM Brasil, Apple devices, such as the iPhone 14, 15, and 16 models, are included. Samsung’s Galaxy line is also covered, with models from the A14 to A54 series, in addition to the S line (S21 to S25) and the foldables from Z Flip 3 to Z Flip 6.

How Free Internet Via Satellite Will Work
The connection will be possible through low Earth orbit satellites, known as LEO (Low Earth Orbit), which provide superior speeds and lower latency compared to traditional geostationary satellites. Starlink’s internet will be transmitted directly to smartphones, without relying on ground towers, which, according to CNN Brasil, is a significant innovation for the telecommunications sector.
Experts consulted by UAI assert that, initially, the speed will be sufficient for emergency calls, messaging, and basic browsing. The service will be gradually expanded and is expected to allow voice and video calls, file downloads, and live broadcasts.
Expansion of Connectivity in Remote Areas
Satellite technology is seen as a game-changer in combating digital exclusion. According to data from Anatel, more than 4,000 municipalities in Brazil still face difficulties with mobile coverage. The inclusion of Starlink in this context paves the way for projects aimed at universalizing internet access, especially in the Amazon, the northeastern hinterland, and isolated communities in the South and Southeast.
The T-Mobile and SpaceX partnership was initially announced in the United States, but Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, has already stated that the idea is to expand the service to several countries. In Brazil, Starlink is already commercially active in rural areas and regions where other operators do not reach.
