Sulgás Expanded Natural Gas Distribution In Rio Grande do Sul, Focusing On Small And Medium-Sized Industries. With An Investment Of R$ 67 Million In 2025, The Company Aims To Serve New Cities.
Sulgás, the distributor of natural gas in Rio Grande do Sul, is intensifying its investments to expand the supply network in the state, especially in the regions of Serra Gaúcha and the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre. Controlled since 2022 by Compass Gás & Energia, part of the Cosan group, the company aims to boost services to the industrial sector — which currently accounts for 83% of the distributed volume — and also reach small and medium-sized industries near its distribution network.
Natural Gas Network Could Benefit Up To 400 New Industries
One of the main projects under review by Sulgás envisions the supply of natural gas to companies located up to 500 meters from the existing network.
According to the company, there are between 360 and 400 small and medium-sized industries that can be served under these conditions, mainly located in areas where the service is already operational.

Initially, supply will be conducted by trucks to a local decompression point, while the pipeline infrastructure is not completed.

Sulgás Reveals Investment Of R$ 67 Million In 2025
For 2025, Sulgás announced an investment of R$ 67 million. The amount represents a reduction from the initial forecast of R$ 130 million, previously presented to the State Secretary of the Environment and Infrastructure.
The company states that the change was necessary due to non-compliance with the tariff values set out in the concession contract.
Despite the adjustment, the investment remains aligned with the levels recorded before the company’s concession process.
In 2024, Sulgás had reached a historic record of investments, with R$ 100 million invested and the milestone of 100,000 customers served.
With a focus on economic development, sustainability, and energy security, Sulgás maintains its expansion strategy as part of its long-term commitment to Rio Grande do Sul.
The company plans to continue investing in infrastructure and new supply models, ensuring that natural gas reaches an increasing number of customers, in various sizes and locations.
