Dual Sport Motorcycle DR-Z4S Arrives in the 2025 Line with Historical Improvements: EFI, Ride-by-Wire, Riding Modes, Traction Control and Fully Adjustable KYB Suspension
The Suzuki DR-Z4S 2025 has finally arrived at North American dealerships bringing the most awaited update in the dual sport category. After more than two decades with the DR-Z400S design practically unchanged, the Japanese manufacturer presents a completely revised model, from the engine to the electronics, focusing on versatility and efficiency. The news was officially announced by Suzuki USA and tested by the specialized press in Oregon forests.
With a new cleaner and more powerful 398cc DOHC engine, twin-spar steel frame, Ride-by-Wire system, digital display and technologies such as traction control with Gravel mode and switchable ABS, the DR-Z4S represents a modern rebirth for an off-road legend.
Electronic Fuel Injection in the DR-Z4S 2025 Ensures Immediate Responses and Eliminates Stalling at Any Elevation
The major transformation of the Suzuki DR-Z4S 2025 is the adoption of electronic fuel injection and Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle, replacing the old carburetor. With this, the model achieves the Euro5+ emission standard, eliminates low-end throttle stumbles and improves fuel consumption. The system uses a 10-port injector and a 42 mm throttle body.

Fiat launches the new 2027 Toro hybrid with 48V, 176 hp, an electric motor of 15.5 hp, a 0.85 kWh battery, up to 7% fuel savings, 8% fewer emissions, and possible exemption from IPVA.
The new engine delivers 38 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 3.77 kgfm of torque at 6500 rpm, with smoothness from the lowest revs. According to Cycle News, the behavior is now much more refined, especially on technical trails and climbs.
The Easy Start feature from Suzuki is also present, allowing for ignition with just a touch of the button. The system facilitates cold starts and prevents stalling.
With two iridium spark plugs and a redesigned combustion chamber, the cylinder head provides more efficient combustion. The intake valves are titanium, while the exhaust valves are sodium-filled for heat dissipation.
The mechanical evolution also includes a lighter piston, a crankshaft with lower mechanical losses, and a 5-speed transmission with SCAS slipper clutch. Even without the awaited sixth gear, the gear ratios are better utilized due to the broader torque curve.
Riding Modes and Traction Control with Gravel Mode Place the DR-Z4S Among the Safest in Its Class
The new DR-Z4S 2025 brings the S.I.R.S. (Suzuki Intelligent Ride System) package, an advanced electronic set derived from the brand’s superbikes. It includes SDMS riding modes (A, B, and C), STCS traction control with 4 levels (1, 2, G, and OFF), and ABS with the option for total shutdown or just rear.
In Mode A, the behavior is aggressive and ideal for more challenging trails. Mode B is intermediate and recalls the style of the old DR-Z400S. Meanwhile, Mode C offers smooth power delivery, ideal for beginners or slippery terrains.
The Gravel Mode (G) was highlighted in tests conducted by the Adventure Rider team, which praised its performance on ascents with low traction. It reduces rear wheel spin and improves traction without compromising the riding feel.
Another highlight is the multifunction LCD display, featuring gear indicator, active mode, fuel level and essential data visible even under intense sunlight. Mode switching can be done while riding through handlebar controls.
In terms of safety, the DR-Z4S’s ABS is provided by Bosch and is the first from Suzuki to allow complete shutdown for trail use. However, the system resets every time the key is turned off.
KYB Suspension with 11” Travel and Reinforced Steel Frame Provide Stability to the New DR-Z4S Even on Challenging Trails
The new twin-spar steel chassis with a aluminum subframe offers greater torsional rigidity and better mass centralization. The suspension comprises KYB inverted front forks with 280 mm of travel and a rear shock with 296 mm and progressive linkage.
Both sets offer complete compression and rebound adjustments, ensuring that the bike adapts to both uneven terrains and asphalt. Ergonomics have also been revised: higher handlebars (28 mm), further back footpegs (23 mm), and a lower seat (920 mm).
Despite the weight increase of 16 pounds (7.3 kg) compared to the DR-Z400S, totaling 333 pounds (151 kg), the DR-Z4S remained agile on trails and stable at high speeds, according to journalists who tested it on dirt and asphalt roads.
The set of larger disc brakes (270 mm front and 240 mm rear) provides safer and more predictable braking. The IRC GP-410 tires were developed exclusively for the model and balance performance on dirt and asphalt.
The engine’s lower protection now comes standard with an aluminum skid plate, and Suzuki offers an even more robust accessory for extreme trails. There are also options like a 12V socket, heated grips, and a luggage rack.
Digital Display, Complete LED Lighting, and Aggressive Look Make the DR-Z4S the Most Modern in Suzuki’s Dual Sport Line
The design of the new Suzuki DR-Z4S is minimalist and inspired by motocross bikes. The new front with a mono LED headlight replaces the old rectangular unit and nods to the RM-Z. All lighting is LED: turn signals, tail light, plate light, and headlight.
The compact LCD display shows essential functions in a clean layout, with a digital speedometer, tachometer, fuel level, riding mode, and gear indicator. The ABS button is also embedded in the display.
Available in Champion Yellow with White and Solid Iron Gray, the DR-Z4S maintains the brand’s identity with details such as black rims, conical handlebars, half-waffle grips, and footpegs with removable inserts.
The ergonomics are designed for long distances, combining comfort on highways and control on rough terrain. For shorter riders, Suzuki offers a low seat that reduces the height by over 3 cm.
Despite the reduced tank size to 2.3 gallons (8.7 liters), the efficiency of the new injection system improves range by up to 5%. The brand claims a range of nearly 250 km on a single fill-up.
DR-Z4S Arrives Priced at US$ 8999 in the U.S. and Outperforms CRF450L in Technology, Comfort, and Dual Sport Versatility
The new Suzuki DR-Z4S 2025 is being sold in the United States for US$ 8999, about US$ 1800 more than the old DR-Z400S. Despite this, the model justifies the price increase with a complete generational leap.
Among its main competitors is the Honda CRF450L, which costs around US$ 10,099 and is more geared towards extreme off-road. The DR-Z4S stands out for offering better electronics package, superior suspension, and a more balanced use between trail and city.
For beginner riders, the new DR-Z4S is more accessible in ergonomics and handling. For experienced riders, it delivers reliable performance with real technology, without relying on adapted race bikes for the street.
The 5-speed transmission still sparks debate, but the new torque curve and engine elasticity make up for the absence of a sixth gear in most scenarios. The new dual exhaust with catalytic converters reduces emissions without sacrificing performance.
With an update cycle that has taken over 20 years, the Suzuki DR-Z4S is set to remain on the market for a long time. The brand offers 1 year warranty and an extended protection plan with enhanced coverage.
For those looking for a modern, robust dual sport ready for any terrain, the new DR-Z4S is the most complete and balanced option in the category in 2025.
