The Battle for the Top of the Brazilian Automotive Market Takes on New Contours with Drastic Changes in the Positions of the Best-Selling Cars So Far
The Brazilian automotive market is experiencing a moment of great dynamism and competitiveness in 2024. After years of almost absolute dominance by the Chevrolet Onix and, later, the Fiat Strada, this year’s scenario promises a fierce competition, especially between the Fiat Strada and the Volkswagen Polo. The recent change in the sales ranking leadership confirms the intensity of this competition, according to the Automais TV website.
Fiat Strada Surprises and Recovers Leadership
In July, the Fiat Strada made an impressive turnaround, jumping from fourth place to market leadership. With a sales volume of 14,192 units, the compact pickup more than doubled its sales compared to the previous month, when it sold 7,550 units. This significant growth reflects its ongoing popularity and Brazilian consumers’ preference for utility vehicles that combine functionality and cost-effectiveness.
Volkswagen Polo Maintains Second Position in Ranking
Despite the rise of the Fiat Strada, the Volkswagen Polo did not fall far behind. The German hatchback maintained second place, with a sales increase from 9,683 units in June to 12,543 units in July. Although the Polo increased its sales volume, the gap compared to the leader was enough to secure the first position for the Strada, at least for now.

Hyundai HB20 Faces Accentuated Decline
One of the major highlights of the month was the sharp decline of the Hyundai HB20. After a surprising leadership in June, the HB20 plummeted to seventh place in July, with 7,228 units sold. This abrupt fall allowed the Hyundai Creta, the larger sibling of the HB20, to advance to sixth place. The heavy drop of the HB20 in the ranking can be attributed to a combination of factors, including a vehicle portfolio refresh and changes in consumer preferences.
Volkswagen T-Cross and Fiat Argo Stand Out
While some models fall, others show signs of recovery. The Volkswagen T-Cross, a refreshed compact SUV, rose from eighth to fourth place. The T-Cross, which retains the title of the best-selling SUV in Brazil, continues to be a popular choice among consumers. Likewise, the Fiat Argo advanced from fifth to third place, with 8,663 units sold in July, a modest increase compared to June.
Chevrolet Onix and Other Changes in the Market
The Chevrolet Onix, which was once the undisputed leader, remains in fifth place with 7,423 units sold. However, the drop of the Chevrolet Onix Plus to 14th place is notable, especially considering that it was in sixth place the previous month. The change in the top 10 also included the rise of the Fiat Mobi and the Chevrolet Tracker, which occupy eighth and ninth places, respectively, while the Nissan Kicks rounds out the top 10.
Ranking of the Best-Selling Vehicles in the Market So Far
- Fiat Strada – 14,192 units

The Brazilian car market is in constant evolution, and the changes in sales positions reflect not only the competition among the models but also the dynamics of consumer preferences and the marketing strategies of automakers. With the Fiat Strada leading and the Volkswagen Polo maintaining a strong second position, the rest of the year promises more interesting twists.
