Powering the Transformers of the Porto de Sergipe I Thermoelectric Plant Will Allow the Conclusion of Testing Activities for the Natural Gas-Fired Plant

The Porto de Sergipe I thermoelectric plant has achieved an important milestone in its schedule. GE Grid Solutions has energized the transformers of the gas turbines at the Celse Thermoelectric Plant in Barra dos Coqueiros.
The task performed is significant because it enables the plant to be connected to the national power grid through the 500kV transmission system.
Sergipe Basin Begins Production in November, Says Petrobras.

While the thermoelectric plant is not yet producing energy, the “backfeed,” as the procedure is called, will make it possible to begin the commissioning of the main equipment, which can only be performed with high power available on the electrical grid.

GE Grid Solutions project director, Sebastien Marlier, spoke about this last and important phase of the project. “This is the final stage of our supply for the Porto de Sergipe I plant. We completed the entire energization of the plant in April of this year and, now, with ONS’s authorization for the energization of the transformers, we were able to complete the most critical phase of the Grid Solutions supply”.

“This latest milestone perfectly concludes a series of successful actions, from the delivery of the executive projects, the assembly of the 34 km of transmission lines, civil construction, and the installation of the high-voltage substation equipment by our team,” he added.

Final Stage

With the plant powered, the GE team will be able to carry out the final commissioning stages of the heavier thermal equipment, and the GE executive explained that: “The success of this stage will be crucial for the completion of tests on the three natural gas turbines and the steam turbine, and the start of hot tests, involving gas combustion, known as first fire.”

The Porto Sergipe I thermoelectric plant, when it starts operation, will be one of the largest and most modern gas-fired thermal plants in Latin America.
The project belongs to Celse (Sergipe Electric Power Plants) and also has maritime facilities; the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), the anchoring system, and the gas pipeline responsible for transporting natural gas from the FSRU to the UTE.
