The Lecar 459 Hybrid, dubbed the “Brazilian Tesla”, has had its price reduced. With changes in steel and electric motor suppliers, as well as advanced technologies, the car is already drawing attention in Brazil. Will this innovation transform the automotive landscape in the country?

An ambitious promise emerges on the horizon, transforming the expectation of Brazilians regarding technology, sustainability, and economy.

The Lecar 459 Hybrid: The First Hybrid Car in Brazil

With a new perspective that blends innovation and more accessible values, the Lecar 459 Hybrid, considered the “Brazilian Tesla”, stands out even before hitting the streets.

What is at stake is not just the launch of a vehicle, but the dream of mobility that could alter the course of the national industry.

Reduced Price and Production Timelines

The Lecar 459 hybrid has just had its price reduced, while the start of its production is still a long way off, projected to occur only after August 2026.

As of July 2024, the initially announced price of R$ 150,000 has dropped to R$ 147,900.

Although the price has been adjusted, the project remains unchanged regarding timelines and figures released by the company, which continues to accept reservations with a deposit.

Flávio Figueiredo Assis: The “Brazilian Elon Musk”

The key figure behind this innovative project is Flávio Figueiredo Assis, nicknamed the “Brazilian Elon Musk”. He has already revealed various changes regarding the Lecar 459 hybrid, including a significant shift in the supply of steel used in the body.

According to Assis, the Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) will replace Arcelor-Mittal, while the electric motor, which was previously supplied by another company, will now be produced by Hepu-Power. Nonetheless, the structure will retain a WEG generator with 68 horsepower.

The New Lecar Factory in Sooretama

The future Lecar factory will be installed in Sooretama, Espírito Santo, and has already begun to show promising details about its production capacity.

Recent images suggest that the location will have an annual production of 120,000 vehicles and create 1,500 direct jobs, in addition to 3,000 indirect jobs, highlighting the economic impact of the operation in the region and Brazil as a whole.

Performance and Range of the Lecar 459 Hybrid

The Lecar 459 hybrid will be flexible, using the Horse HR08DT engine, whose design seems to raise some doubts among experts.

According to comparative information, the HR08DT engine from Nissan is generally associated with different versions, such as the HR10 from Renault.

However, this engine, as described, will have 12.3 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 22.4 kgfm at 2,500 rpm, and will operate in conjunction with the electric motor from Hepu-Power, which will provide 163 horsepower and 26.3 kgfm.

With this data, the Lecar 459 hybrid can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds, a respectable performance for a hybrid.

Another highlight is the 18.4 kWh battery, supplied by the Chinese company Winston, which offers an electric range of 100 km, while the combined hybrid mode provides a total range of 1,000 km.

Technology and Comfort in the Lecar 459 Hybrid

Lecar emphasizes this range in travel comparisons between Brazilian capitals, which certainly sparks consumer curiosity, especially when considering the fuel efficiency provided by a 35-liter tank, ensuring an impressive average of 28.5 km/l.

The model weighs 1,396 kg, is 4.35 meters long, 1.82 meters wide, and has a wheelbase of 2.7 meters, offering a trunk capacity of 530 liters.

The “Brazilian Tesla” will also feature 18-inch alloy wheels and 225/50 R18 tires, as well as independent suspension on all wheels, benefiting from the rear electric motor.

Onboard technology is not left behind, as the Lecar 459 hybrid will be equipped with the complete ADAS package, which includes safety systems such as autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Additionally, it will include blind spot monitoring and the FSD function for semi-autonomous driving.

The Future of the Lecar 459 Hybrid in Brazil

Innovation in Brazil seems to finally gain traction with the Lecar 459 hybrid, but will consumers wait until 2026 to embark on this journey towards sustainable mobility?

Do you believe this project will move forward? And more, do you think we will ever have a 100% national vehicle competing with brands like Chevrolet, Toyota, and Volkswagen? Share your thoughts in the comments! Until next time!
