The great company of Elon Musk, Tesla, opened in the Tibetan city of Lhasa, China, its first station that uses only solar energy to recharge electric cars

Electric car company Tesla has opened its first Supercharger charging station in China that uses solar energy panels for 100% sustainable charging. The new charging station is a first worldwide and stands out for collecting more than 3.000 hours of light per year.

Tesla's first all-in-one charging station

The station that uses solar energy is located in the Tibetan city of Lhasa and, according to an announcement by Tesla, the choice of location was due to the abundance of light that exists in this mountainous area.

Despite China being the second-largest market for the electric car company, this is Tesla's first full charging station that has independent solar energy storage.

The start of a green journey

Solar energy panels, which were mounted on the roof of the electric car charging station, collect the sun's energy, which is stored through accumulators and then, ultimately, made available to Tesla Superchargers.

Elon Musk's company also announced that the solar energy system for the electric car charging station will be able to collect about 3.000 hours of light annually. In one of the two publications made by Tesla after the inauguration of the sustainable charging station, the CEO stated that the system makes efficient use of the gifts of the Sun and nature.

“The constant flow of solar energy has been fully harnessed to establish an ecological chain from use to storage,” said the electric car company. The objective, according to the second publication, is “to start a green journey”.

Tesla stands out in the solar energy market

The electric car company became interested in solar energy in mid-2016. To enter the market, Tesla bought Solar City, a Californian company, for about $2,6 billion, and the company is currently part of Tesla Energy. Shortly after this purchase, the automaker announced that it seeks to evolve even further in this renewable energy sector.

In this area, the electric company produces and installs photovoltaic solar energy panels and also Powerwall energy storage devices, which store the energy produced by the sun and use it to power homes and also charge electric cars.

Last year (2020), Elon Musk's automaker made the decision to develop its business in the solar energy sector in Chinese territory and announced the hiring of a leader to open a Solar Roof office in the country.
