In October, a second order was placed for approximately 73 km (45 mi) of BuBi mechanically coated pipe (10-in. OD) and 4.200 m (13.779 ft) of metallurgically coated pipe (14-in. OD). The tubes were ordered in the material combination of carbon-manganese steel and corrosion-resistant alloy.
According to Subsea 7, the use of clad materials in the manufacture of pipes combines the strength and toughness properties of carbon-manganese steels with the corrosion resistance of stainless steels. Located approximately 185 km (115 miles) off the coast of São Paulo, the Bacalhau oil field is in the pre-salt Santos basin in approximately 2.050 m (6.726 ft) of water.
