To warm up the market, this year, Volkswagen will introduce three models abroad: ID.4 GTX with all-wheel drive, ID.5 (SUV coupe), ID.6 (big SUV for China). The production version of ID.Buzz is expected to debut in 2022.

Volkswagen aims to lead electric car sales in the US and China

Volkswagen intends to lead sales of electric cars in the United States and China. According to the executive, the German multinational will invest 16 billion euros over the next five years for the development of software and digital technologies, including autonomous driving systems.

“The key is digitization. The car is now a software-driven product, like an internet-connected device. Cars will become smarter and safer. Electrification is just the beginning, the real dysfunction is yet to come,” says Brandstätter.

Cars with combustion engines Golf, Passat and Tiguan will have new generations

Despite the billionaire investment in the manufacture of electric cars, Brandstätter also added that cars with an internal combustion engine will continue to play an important role for Volkswagen, and that some of the best-selling models, such as the Golf, Tiguan, T-Roc and Passat, will have new generations.

He also said that these vehicles will be needed for some time, "but they need to be even more efficient", referring to plug-in hybrid technology (with batteries that can be recharged at outlets).
