Petrobras Sold 70% of Landulpho Alves to Total Company According to Union Information.
In the city of São Francisco do Conde, Bahia, the sale of 70% of Landulpho Alves Refinery (Rlam) by Petrobras to Total was announced by Sindipetro-BA (Bahia Oil Workers Union). Being the second-largest refinery in the country in terms of “processing capacity,” Rlam started operations in 1950 and was the first to have refining capacity in Petrobras’s system. Petrobras had been in advanced discussions and meetings with Total, and it is worth noting that the company also has stakes in thermoelectric plants in Salvador (Metropolitan Region).
Petrobras as a Minority Shareholder
In previous conversations, representatives of Sindipetro reported that the Brazilian state oil company was in advanced talks with the French company Total, which indeed has stakes in thermoelectric plants in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (RMS). With this sale of 70% of the refinery, Petrobras will remain a minority shareholder, holding only the remaining 30%. With this new direction, the refinery has already started gathering information such as employee benefits, profiles, outsourced personnel, absences, ongoing contracts, etc., according to Sindipetro-BA.

The refinery employed around 1,400 professionals in 2014, according to information from the oil workers. The French company, which already has other partnerships in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador, will also take over the workforce and logistics system. The sale has been finalized, although there is still no official confirmation, says Leonardo Urpia, communications director of Sindipetro.
