TotalEnergies Will Join Petróleo Brasil Ltda. (PPBL), Petrobras, and QatarEnergy for the Operation of the New Exploratory Block. The Offshore Exploration in Água Marinha, in the Campos Basin, Will Open New Doors for the National Oil and Gas Market.

The week is starting quite positively for the Brazilian oil and natural gas market, with new projects on the horizon. This is because, for this Monday (12/26), the oil company TotalEnergies has obtained a license from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) for a new exploratory block in the Água Marinha region, in the Campos Basin. Together with Petrobras, PPBL, and QatarEnergy, the company will operate an offshore exploration campaign in the area.

ANP Grants Necessary License for New Offshore Exploratory Block in the Campos Basin Region, in Água Marinha, for TotalEnergies

The energy, oil, and natural gas company TotalEnergies is successfully following its expansion plan in the Brazilian market.

It recently obtained a license from the ANP for a new exploratory block in the Água Marinha region, in the Campos Basin, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The license was issued during the first area opening cycle under the production sharing regime in the country, ensuring new directions for the national oil and gas market.

The company and its partners then secured a new offshore exploration license for the Água Marinha block in Brazil.

But TotalEnergies will not be the only company operating the oil and gas exploration in the Campos Basin asset, sharing participation with three other companies in the segment.

The Brazilian state-run company Petrobras will hold a total of 30% participation, alongside Petróleo Brasil Ltda. (PPBL), which will have a 20% participation, and QatarEnergy, also with a 20% participation.

Thus, TotalEnergies will operate the asset with 30% participation in Água Marinha, alongside its three partners.

Company Celebrates New Exploratory Block in Água Marinha and States ANP License Will Be Essential for Strategic Expansion in the Offshore Market

The Senior Vice President of Exploration at TotalEnergies, Kevin McLachlan, confirmed that the ANP license for the new exploratory block in Água Marinha will be essential for the company’s strategic growth in the market.

“TotalEnergies is pleased to expand its presence in the Campos Basin with this new exploration block, alongside three strategic partners. This aligns with our strategy to focus exploration on selected basins with high potential, which can provide substantial resources at low cost and low carbon intensity,” the executive stated.

But TotalEnergies is not the only one celebrating the new exploratory block in the Campos Basin. The President and CEO of QatarEnergy and Minister of State for Energy Affairs of Qatar, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, stated that the company will be able to further enhance its upstream portfolio in the national offshore market with the license.

In the first cycle of the permanent production sharing offering (OPP), four out of the 11 blocks available in the Santos and Campos offshore basins in Brazil were acquired.
