The Most Economical Flex Hybrid SUV in Brazil is Manufactured in Sorocaba, Offers Impressive Fuel Consumption, Modern Design, and Arrives to Challenge Rivals with National Production and Focus on Exporting to 22 Countries in Latin America.

Toyota is set to transform the compact SUV market in Brazil with the arrival of the Yaris Cross 2025.

The launch, scheduled for July this year, marks an important moment for the automaker, which introduces an accessible flex hybrid model in the country, with prices starting at R$ 130 thousand.

Produced at the factory in Sorocaba, São Paulo, the Yaris Cross arrives to confront the giants of the segment, such as Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen T-Cross, and Honda HR-V, with a proposal that combines sustainability, technology, and excellent fuel consumption.

Innovation in the Compact SUV Market

The Yaris Cross stands out as the first flexible hybrid compact SUV in Brazil, an innovation that promises to change the market dynamics.

Equipped with a flex hybrid system, the model achieves an impressive 32 km/l in the city, one of the highest fuel efficiencies in its segment.

With a 1.5 flex Atkinson cycle engine, combined with an electric motor, the Yaris Cross offers a total power of 113 hp, which alone places the model ahead of several direct competitors.

In tests conducted in Chile, the hybrid version with gasoline reached 32.3 km/l in the city and 24.4 km/l on the highway, impressive numbers for an SUV in this category.

The hybrid technology, adapted for ethanol, a widely used fuel in Brazil, is another highlight.

This configuration allows for up to 30% reduction in fuel costs, representing significant savings for Brazilian drivers.

And, as if that weren’t enough, the Yaris Cross’s ability to operate in electric mode up to 20 km/h in heavy traffic conditions makes driving quieter and less polluting.

Sustainability and Local Production: A Commitment to the Future

The production of the Yaris Cross in Sorocaba reflects Toyota’s commitment to sustainability and the Brazilian economy.

With an investment of R$ 11 billion by 2030, the automaker is expanding the factory to produce up to 5,000 units monthly of the model.

This not only contributes to job creation but also reinforces Brazil’s position as a hub for hybrid technology in Latin America.

The local factory will also be responsible for 40% of the Yaris Cross production intended for export to 22 countries in the region.

From 2026, the production of hybrid batteries will also be nationalized, which will reduce reliance on imports and strengthen the production chain.

This advancement will positively impact the final cost of the vehicle, consolidating Brazil as a center for innovation in the automotive industry while contributing to the country’s decarbonization goals, which aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Design and Comfort Features Adapted for Brazil

The Yaris Cross is designed to meet the needs of Brazilian drivers, with a modern and functional design.

With a length of 4.31 meters and a width of 1.77 meters, the model offers comfortable interior space for up to five occupants.

The 471-liter trunk (466 liters in the hybrid version) is one of the largest in its category and allows for greater practicality in everyday use.

The look, inspired by successful models like the RAV4, combines a wide trapezoidal grille, angular full-LED headlights, and rear lights with a “U” signature, giving the model a robust and modern feel.

Inside, the Yaris Cross delivers technology and comfort with features such as the 10.1-inch multimedia center, compatible with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

The top-tier versions also offer a digital dashboard, as well as power-adjustable seats, dual-zone air conditioning, and a panoramic sunroof.

These attributes are designed to ensure a pleasant and comfortable driving experience, especially on uneven terrains, where the suspension has been calibrated for Brazilian road conditions.

Safety: Toyota’s Priority

Safety is another strong point of the Yaris Cross, which comes equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense package in all versions.

This system includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and automatic high beams.

In addition, the model has six airbags, parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, and traction and stability controls.

These features make the Yaris Cross a safe and reliable option for drivers of all profiles, including families, as it also has ISOFIX points for child seat installation.

Autonomous braking is a significant differentiator, especially in heavy traffic situations. It detects pedestrians and vehicles ahead, applying the brakes automatically to avoid collisions.

Meanwhile, the adaptive cruise control adjusts the vehicle’s speed according to traffic flow, providing more comfort during long trips.

The Production Strategy and Future Plans

Toyota also has a well-defined strategy for the production and distribution of the Yaris Cross in Brazil.

The model’s launch schedule follows these steps:

  • August 2024: start of production tests at the Sorocaba factory.
  • December 2024: end of production of the Yaris hatch and sedan.
  • June 2025: official launch at Brazilian dealerships.
  • 2026: start of hybrid battery production in Sorocaba.

This planning aims to ensure large-scale production of the Yaris Cross, made possible by the discontinuation of the Yaris hatch and sedan.

This will allow Toyota to focus its efforts on the production of the new SUV, which promises to become one of the main options in the national market.
