Learn About Sustainable Practices in Agroforestry Systems with a Free Online Course for Farmers and Sector Technicians

Embrapa Meio Ambiente, in partnership with UFSCar, MDA, and other institutions, is offering a free online course titled Agroecological SAFs in the Atlantic Forest. This course is aimed at ATER technicians, family farmers, settlers, and traditional communities, with the goal of enhancing knowledge about agroforestry systems (SAFs) and their importance in agroecological transition.

Course Details

With a 30-hour workload, the course allows indefinite access, although completion is recommended within 60 days.

The content is structured into five modules, which include:

1st Introduction to Agroecological SAFs

2nd Planning

3rd Implementation

4th Management

5th Economic Aspects

These modules cover everything from soil diagnosis to the management and marketing of products, promoting the sustainable adoption of these productive systems.

SAFs are a way of farming that combines forest species with agricultural and livestock crops, contributing to the recovery of degraded areas, increasing biodiversity, and improving soil quality.

Importance of Agroforestry Systems

Agroforestry systems play a crucial role in promoting agricultural sustainability.

They help reduce dependence on chemical inputs, as the diversity of crops and species can enhance resistance to pests and diseases.

Additionally, these systems are beneficial for water and soil conservation, promoting moisture retention and preventing erosion.

With growing concerns about climate change, SAFs also stand out for their capacity to sequester carbon, contributing to the mitigation of global warming effects.

The integration of trees with agricultural crops can improve the resilience of rural properties, making them more capable of facing extreme weather events such as droughts and floods.
