Transocean Is Celebrating The Great Year-End With Several Contracts Secured For The Coming Years
The offshore drilling company Transocean has secured several new contracts for its semi-submersible drilling rigs and drillships, which will operate in Canada, the UK, China, Mexico, Norway, and Malaysia. In its latest fleet status report issued on Monday, October 22, Transocean reported that the semi-submersible drilling rig Henry Goodrich has received a one-year contract extension with Husky offshore in eastern Canada. The contract has a day rate of $275,000 and is scheduled to end in November 2019.
The semi-submersible rig Paul B. Loyd Jr. received a two-well contract from BP, which is set to commence in March 2019, along with four well options in the UK North Sea. The contract, for which the day rate was not disclosed, starts in March and ends in August 2019. The rig is currently working on the development wells of Finlaggan in the UK North Sea for Zennor Petroleum. This agreement expires in December 2018.

Transocean’s Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 drilling ship won a three-well contract with CNOOC in China, which is expected to begin in February 2019 and end in June 2019. The contract also includes two additional well options. The drilling ship has been idle since October. The semi-submersible drilling rig Transocean Leader has been awarded a three-well contract in the UK North Sea by Hurricane Energy.
The contract starts in February and ends in July 2019. Currently, the rig is under contract with EnQuest until December 2018. The Deepwater Asgard rig has secured a one-well contract from an unidentified operator for offshore operations in Mexico. This transaction starts in March 2019, following the completion of the rig’s current contract with Murphy Oil in the Gulf of Mexico. The contract is scheduled to end in May 2019. In Norway, Equinor has contracted a Transocean Spitsbergen semi-submersible rig. The day rate for the rig between January and March 2019 will be $236,000, and from May to July 2019, it will be $276,000. In Malaysia, Shell contracted the semi-submersible rig Deepwater Nautilus, which is expected to be completed in January 2019.
