In Order to Meet Fleet Stability and Its Business Plan for 2019-2023, Transpetro Will Hire 13 More Ships
According to Transpetro’s business plan for the period 2019-2023, released this week, the company will hire 13 ships by 2023.
The vessels will be four Suez with dynamic positioning (DP) and two MR (Medium Range) in 2021, three gas carriers and one Suez DP in 2022, and four Suez DP in 2023.
The hiring regime will be under the bareboat charter model, which gives the charterer possession and use of the ships for a specified time, with the charterer having full control, even being able to choose the captain and the crew.
The company’s Business Plan for the period 2019-2023 calls for investments of R$ 4.1 million, totaling an increase of 5% compared to the previous business plan, which was R$ 3.9 million.

What Will Happen to Transpetro’s Fleet
Transpetro, a subsidiary and logistics arm of Petrobras, currently has 58 ships in its fleet and with this new order aims to reach 2023 with the same number in hand.
This calculation is due to the fact that, during this period, 14 ships will leave operation as they reach the end of their useful life or contracts will end, and the last ship of Promef will be delivered.
It is worth remembering that on the last day 27/03, the Atlântico Sul Shipyard (PE) delivered the Aframax “Garrincha”, and now only the last ship of Promef, the ship “Portinari” remains.
Promef was a program launched in 2004 for the modernization and expansion of Transpetro’s fleet.
The main investments according to the 2019-2023 Business Plan will be related, in addition to maritime transport, terminal and pipeline operations.
The financing of the projects will come from operational cash flow generation, asset sales, financing, and revenues from the sale of ships at the end of their useful life, such as scrap.
