This initiative is conducted by UFAL, through the Institute of Artificial Intelligence for Education (IA.Edu), with support from the Itaú Foundation.
The proposal aims to train professionals to handle AI tools and applications in the contexts of education, culture, and public administration, emphasizing ethical use, risk assessment, and evidence-based decision making.
Specialization in Artificial Intelligence Focused on Public Policies
The course is designed to develop analytical, technical, and management skills related to the public policy cycle, from formulation to monitoring and evaluation.
Instead of concentrating training on algorithm programming, the specialization focuses on the strategic use of artificial intelligence in real situations in the public sector and civil society organizations, with activities involving concrete problems and case studies.
Throughout the training, participants will need to develop a final applied project, structured as a public policy proposal that incorporates the use of artificial intelligence in the area of education or culture.
The course conduction includes asynchronous and synchronous activities, as well as collaborative learning dynamics and guided follow-up, according to UFAL’s institutional presentation.
Curriculum Structure and Topics Covered in the Course
The structure released by UFAL organizes the specialization into six parts that combine fundamentals, applications, and practice.
Among the topics mentioned in the course presentation are foundations of public policies, technical and regulatory aspects of AI, discussions on ethics and algorithmic governance, as well as use cases in education and culture.
In the educational area, the proposal includes debates on applications and challenges of artificial intelligence in learning, with space to discuss equity, planning, and data-driven decision making.
In the cultural field, the program mentions uses related to preservation, access, and cultural mediation, with attention to issues such as copyright, diversity, and creative economy.
There is also a laboratory focused on mapping and critically analyzing tools and methodologies, with a focus on choices driven by public needs.
Another highlighted axis is the management and evaluation of policies using AI, with discussions on indicators, monitoring, accountability, and transparency in the use of algorithms.
The final stage concentrates on developing the applied project, which seeks to integrate the course knowledge into a viable proposal from a technical, ethical, and institutional perspective.
Who Can Enroll in UFAL’s Specialization
The announcement allows candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any area to apply, as long as the originating course is recognized by the Ministry of Education.
Those in the last semester of their undergraduate studies can also participate, provided they present completion documentation at the time of registration.
UFAL indicates as a priority audience managers and technicians from Education and Culture departments, members of councils in these areas, and professionals from civil society organizations working with education, culture, or technology.
Nevertheless, the selection is conducted according to the rules of the announcement, and meeting the indicated profile may influence the fitting into the process.
Distribution of Slots and Affirmative Actions Provided
The 200 slots are distributed according to rules established in the announcement, with provisions for reservation for affirmative actions and specific public groups.
The policy includes groups such as Black, Indigenous, people with disabilities, transgender individuals, refugees, and other categories described in the document, as well as specific criteria for profiles linked to UFAL and other categories indicated by the selection.
The university informs that the reservation rules follow institutional guidelines and that the details of verification, documentation, and fitting must be consulted in the announcement and the SIGAA guidelines.
