Unigel In Cooperation With Clients Prepares To Deliver 40 Thousand Tons Of Automotive Urea To The Market In Two Months.
Unigel, a well-known producer of chemical inputs, announced the resumption of automotive urea production at its nitrogen fertilizer plant located in the Camaçari Petrochemical Pole, in Bahia. This initiative is specific, responding to customer demand and aiming to keep the market supplied with a crucial element for the production of ARLA 32, an essential reagent in reducing pollutant emissions from diesel-powered vehicles.
The Importance Of Automotive Urea
“For the production of ARLA, high-purity urea, also known as automotive urea, is required. We are the only national producer of this type of urea, making it an environmental and logistical priority for us to supply this market”, details Roberto Noronha Santos, CEO of Unigel. According to him, the use of automotive urea results in a direct reduction of 60% in pollutant gas emissions and 80% of the particles emitted by diesel engines. This is entirely aligned with Unigel’s environmental commitments, which place sustainability at the center of its business models.
According to PROCONVE (Air Pollution Control Program for Motor Vehicles), the use of ARLA is mandatory. The law, granted by the National Environment Council, further increased the requirements in 2023. Now, all diesel engine vehicles manufactured from January of this year are equipped with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology, raising ARLA consumption from 3 to 4% to 5 to 7%.

A Partnership In Favor Of The Environment And The National Economy
The resumption of automotive urea production had the full support of ABRAPA 32 (Brazilian Association of ARLA 32 Producers) and the market in general, as well as Unigel’s partner clients.
Noronha emphasizes that the initiative is a national priority, considering that over 60% of Brazil’s transportation matrix is road-based. “Automotive urea is a crucial input for the functioning of the country”, he concludes.
