Initially known as Capivari-Cachoeira, the plant was renamed in honor of Governor Pedro Viriato Parigot de Souza, who led Paraná from 1971 to 1973 and was also president of Copel.
In 2000, the Plant underwent the installation of a generator-turbine shaft oscillation and vibration supervision system, along with preventive and corrective maintenance, such as injector nozzle replacement, stator recovery, and others. With the modernization of the equipment, there was a gain of 2 MW per generator, increasing the plant’s capacity from 252 MW to the current 260 MW.
