The University of São Paulo (USP) has opened free courses in technology and programming during the January holidays for girls who are currently in or have already completed high school, with online classes taking place from January 5 to 31, in Brazil, as a way to expand educational opportunities and encourage female presence in the tech sector.
The initiative occurs through the Multidisciplinary Girls Coding course, which offers introductory training in Python and Scratch, combining technical learning with discussions on diversity, inclusion, and citizenship, precisely at a time when the technology market is growing yet still faces gender inequalities.
Free USP Courses Focus on Inclusion and Access to Technology
USP has structured the free courses to reduce barriers to entry in the technology field, especially for girls. By offering online classes, the university expands the reach of the initiative and creates opportunities for students from different regions of Brazil.

Additionally, the students learn about loops, such as “for in” and “while,” and work with lists, which strengthens logical reasoning and prepares them for more advanced studies in technology.

The course goes beyond code. The classes include the development of animations and games focused on diversity and inclusion. Each technical meeting is complemented by thematic lectures addressing gender equality, racial issues, and women’s health.

At the end of the course, participants who achieve at least 75% attendance, correctly complete at least 50% of the exercises, and obtain a grade of 5 or higher receive a USP extension certificate.
