USP Has Thousands of Openings in Free Courses with Guaranteed Completion Certificate. There Are More Than 70 Programs in Areas Such as Philosophy, Humanities, Languages, and More.
The USP is open for registration for its free summer courses in 2023. Through this initiative, the University of São Paulo aims to democratize access to knowledge in the fields of Philosophy, Social Sciences, Languages, Geography, and History. For those who have dreamed of studying at USP but couldn’t pass the competitive entrance exam, it is worth considering this offering of free remote courses, which function as a university extension project.
USP Offers More Than 4,000 Openings in Free Courses
In this round, the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages, and Human Sciences (FFLCH) will offer a total of 4,135 openings in 52 free USP courses, which will be conducted online by the Commission on Culture and University Extension.
This is not the first time the university has offered free summer programs. In 2020, the first edition of the event provided 2,600 opportunities across 70 programs. Anyone can register and participate in a free course at USP, as long as they have an interest in the subject and the availability to attend classes. Moreover, as the opportunities are limited, USP conducts a selection process to recruit new students. The courses will be taught by graduate students and professors.

This group includes 14 free USP courses on important topics, such as cultural war in contemporary Brazil, science criticism, Marxism, cinema and fashion at the end of the 20th century, Shakespeare, visual culture in the People’s Republic of China, Simone de Beauvoir, among others.
Studies in Anthropology, Politics, and Society (Group 2)
This group includes 10 courses focusing on themes such as Hollywood and Neoliberalism, the afterlife of slavery, the war in Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East, ethnography, yoga, the Northeast in Brazilian social formation, and much more.

Finally, students of Languages and those who want to learn more about literature also have good reasons to choose a course. USP offers courses on 20th-century Portuguese literature, science fiction, creativity and creation and social criticism, metaphysics of literature, language teaching in Brazil, and love in Clarice Lispector.
Registrations for the Selection Process Can Be Made Online
Registrations can be made exclusively online through the Apolo platform. The registration period follows a schedule. It is essential to check which group your course of interest fits into so that the deadline is not missed.
Anyone over 18 can participate in USP’s free courses. Just access the system and express interest without needing to pay any fees or log in. After accessing the Apolo platform, it is necessary to select the FFLCH unit and choose one of the program options. The selection process consists of lotteries that will be conducted throughout this month and the following ones.
Candidates will be classified in the free courses according to the order drawn. Each student will receive an automatic email with the lottery results, whether positive or negative. Those who are awarded a spot and cannot participate must contact the administration via the email agenda@usp.br. It is important to mention that all summer courses will issue certificates from USP. However, it is necessary to have a minimum attendance of 75% in classes.
