With the Completion of Receiving the Large Equipment, Recently Arrived from Germany and the United States, the Power Island of the Plant at Açu Can Now Be Assembled
The construction of the GNA I thermal power plant, located at the Port of Açu, in São João da Barra (RJ), enters a decisive phase. With the civil works of the plant nearly finished and the receipt of the large equipment that will be part of its power island, the project reinforces the electromechanical assembly phase, a stage that typically creates many jobs.
The equipment arrived at the multi-cargo terminal of the Port of Açu, coming from Germany and the United States, where it was manufactured by Siemens.
According to Armando Juliani, Director of Services & Digitalization, EPC Power Generation at Siemens in Brazil, the receipt of the equipment is a milestone in the project.
“We are very happy to take this step in completing such an important project as this, which not only involves the installation of the equipment but also includes the provision of long-term services for the operation and maintenance of the plant,” he said.
Last May, Click Petróleo e Gás had already published the arrival of the most important equipment of the plant, considered its heart, the gas turbine.

Next Phases of the Project
Once the Electromechanical Assembly of GNA I is completed, the project will enter the commissioning phase, expected to begin early next year.
The GNA I has a generation capacity of 1,300 MW and consists of three SGT6-8000H gas turbines, one SST6-5000 steam turbine, three heat recovery boilers, as well as a cooling tower, substation, and supervision and control systems.
The project at Açu is the largest natural gas thermoelectric complex in Latin America, totaling 3 GW and also includes a second unit, of higher power, the UTE GNA II, with an installed capacity of 1,700 MW, and both projects were developed by GNA (Gas Natural Açu), a joint venture formed by Prumo Logística, BP, and Siemens.
