With Direct Sales Of Ethanol, Feplana Projects Price Drop And Says There Will Be No Loss In Quality. According To The President Of The Entity, The Price Of The Biofuel Should Be Lower Especially At The Mills Located In The Major Centers

The provisional measure approved last week by the government, which guarantees the direct sale of ethanol from mills to gas stations, could bring benefits for consumers. This statement comes from Alexande Andrade Lima, president of the Federation of Sugarcane Growers of Brazil (Feplana).

Direct Sales Will Lower Prices And Maintain Biofuel Quality

According to Lima, “The expectation is that the price of ethanol will decrease, especially at industrial units that are close to the major consumer centers.” He also emphasizes that the quality of the biofuel coming directly from the mill to the gas stations will be ensured.

“The sector is well monitored by ANP. There is no chance of losing quality at the gas pumps, as there will be information from the mill that provided the product, ensuring quality. The sector is very responsible regarding the product’s origin,” he states.

The president of Feplana participated in the signing ceremony of the provisional measure for the direct sale of ethanol. He mentioned that he has not had access to the details of the measure but believes that it aligns with the expectations of the productive sector.

“There will be no loss of PIS/Confins or federal tax revenue. It is important to remember that producers will not be obligated to sell directly, and distributors will continue to operate normally. However, I see a better margin for those who engage in direct sales because when you remove an entity from this chain, you end up reducing costs,” he concludes.

Brazilian Ethanol Attracted The Attention Of Volkswagen, Which Aspires To Make Brazil A Development Hub For Internal Combustion Engine Cars

Brazilian ethanol is a cheaper and more viable alternative compared to electric cars and is gaining international attention, including from multinational Volkswagen, for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Following the example of Japanese Toyota, Volkswagen states that it will adopt ethanol as the best path for the electrification of the national vehicle market and is considering producing vehicles with hybrid flexible engines.

The interest in our fuel attracted the attention of, for example, Volkswagen, which aspires to transform Brazil into a development hub for internal combustion engine cars. The automaker believes that electric cars in Brazil would not achieve the same adoption and consumption as in Europe. Because, in addition to being expensive, we produce ethanol, considered a biofuel that can very well meet the objective of reducing pollutant emissions and CO2,” comments Romio.

According to calculations from the Sugarcane Industry Union (Única), considering the complete cycle, which includes planting and harvesting sugarcane, processing, transportation, and distribution, along with usage in cars, a vehicle powered exclusively by Brazilian gasoline (with 27% anhydrous alcohol) emits 131 g of CO2 per kilometer, compared to just 37 g of CO2/km when solely fueled with cane ethanol, which is lower than that of a battery model in Europe, which emits 54 g of CO2/km when powered by the current energy matrix in the region.
