Volkswagen Recently Announced Its Electric Golf Planning to Honor the Old Generation Models. The Electric Vehicle Will Have a Range of 450 KM and 223 Horsepower.

Announced last week by Volkswagen, the ID.2all could be the first battery-powered Golf, coming to market with the proposal of being one of the cheapest electric cars from the German brand. Additionally, the electric model is expected to leave the factory with some references to the company’s past.

Volkswagen ID.2all – Revealed!

According to the designer responsible for the Electric Golf’s design, Volkswagen is transferring the DNA of its icons to the future. The ID.2all is, therefore, a homage to the Beetle, Polo, and the Golf. The software that runs on the car’s multimedia center allows simulating the look of old instruments used by Volkswagen in the 1970s and 1980s.

In Beetle or Classic mode, the screen behind the steering wheel has a black background. A large pointer speedometer appears on the dashboard along with a gear indicator positioned to the left. The fake grilles on the edges resemble the speaker of the Beetle, which was camouflaged within the classic dashboard.

In Classic mode, the main screen of the Electric Golf also changes and turns into a kind of old radio similar to the original that came with the Beetle. In the car’s multimedia center, the driver will be able to choose between three different modes: the most modern (ID Era), the Golf (Golf Era), and the Beetle (Classic).

With the Golf mode activated, the dashboard of the electric car refers to the classic hatch from the 80s, with two large square main displays, the speedometer and the fuel gauge, which serves the purpose of showing the driver the battery charge level.

Volkswagen ID.2all Will Be Sold for Less Than 40,000 Euros

Another novelty of the electric Golf is the screen in the console, which this time will come with an old tape player and a kind of bulletin board.

In the end, even being a simple feature, it’s interesting to see Volkswagen paying homage to its classics. It remains to be seen whether, at launch, customization with other styles will also be allowed, like that of the Gol and Kombi, for example, two iconic models that marked generations in Brazil.

The model will be considerably cheaper than the ID.3, which is sold for nearly 40,000 euros in Germany. The Electric Golf is based on an updated platform at Volkswagen called MEB Entry, which promises to deliver more performance for compact electric cars.

With front-wheel drive, the vehicle will feature an electric motor of 223 horsepower and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds. The estimated range by the company is 450 km and the expectation is that the car will take only 20 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. The production of the electric car is scheduled to begin in 2025 in the Old Continent. For now, there are still no signs of a launch outside Europe.

Volkswagen Honoring Past Models

In addition to honoring the Beetle, Volkswagen also paid tribute to the Kombi, bringing an electric version that is a success in Europe. The model, named ID.Buzz, has been in pre-sale since May 2022 and is not expected to arrive here before 2024.

According to the manufacturer, by December, the new generation of the van has more than 26,000 orders, with 10,000 of these reaching the dealership soon. Thus, the model exceeded all Volkswagen’s expectations.

According to Lars Krause, a member of the Board of Directors of VWCV for Sales and Marketing, Volkswagen is very pleased with the launch of its first electric Kombi of the future. Now, the company plans to further expand production and deliver the vehicles to its customers and fans.
