Since 2017, the Brazilian Institute of Petroleum and Natural Gas has assisted in the education of 7,000 young people from public schools by going to classrooms to interact with students, and this year, with social distancing measures, they continue to make an impact through digital volunteering.
But beyond doing good for these students, oil multinationals are also positively impacted, improving organizational climate with more motivated and engaged teams, and better-prepared employees since, to help students, volunteers need to master topics related to entrepreneurship, business, finance, management, and how to develop new soft skills for the job market.

The partnership with Junior Achievement consists of the Entrepreneurial Track, a project that serves state schools in Rio de Janeiro to provide students with a learning path throughout their three years of high school, focusing on entrepreneurship, financial education, project management, and market-ready skills.
Oil companies, besides contributing financially to make the project viable, have a strong commitment to corporate volunteering, involving their employees in practical activities. These professionals receive training on the content of each program and go to classrooms to teach students and share their professional experiences.
In many cases, volunteers become a source of inspiration for young people and often maintain closer contact to help them enter the job market and continue to develop. “Volunteering is the best way to pass on any knowledge to students, whether professional, life experiences, or practical questions about the requirements to enter a field,” explains Talita Alves, a volunteer in the Entrepreneurial Track, former Junior Achievement student, and employee at Repsol Sinopec in the Communication & External Relations area.
Currently, activities are conducted in a digital format; volunteers set aside specific times to meet with young people and provide mentoring on entrepreneurship topics, sharing content and professional experiences that align with the current program. The new model of volunteering even facilitates participation from individuals who previously found it difficult to dedicate time to these activities due to their routines.
In addition to online mentoring, when in-person classes return with the necessary safety protocols, oil multinationals will welcome young people at corporate units so they can experience the work routine in various administrative areas.
Organizations associated with IBP participate in the volunteer activities with Junior Achievement, including: Baker Hughes, BP Energy, Ipiranga Karoon, Petrobras, Enauta, Repsol Sinopec, Shell, Equinor, Total, Weatherford, Wilson Sons, Subsea 7, Supergasbras, Galp, and SBM. In the Entrepreneurial Track, volunteers from oil and gas companies also interact with employees from the Casas Bahia Foundation and Michelin, companies that also participate in the project.
