Volvo Inaugurated The First Fast Charging Station For Electric Cars In São Paulo. The Chargers Have A Power Of 150 kWh And Can Charge Up To Two Vehicles At The Same Time

Volvo inaugurated on Thursday (12) the first fast charging station for electric cars in the municipality of Cajati, São Paulo, on the Régis Bittencourt highway, which connects the cities of São Paulo and Curitiba. The fast charger has a power of 150 kWh and is capable of charging 400 km of range in an XC40 Recharge in about 45 minutes. The equipment can be used for free by both owners of the brand’s cars and owners of other electric vehicles compatible with the European standard.

Volvo Invests R$ 10 Million In Fast Charging Station In São Paulo And Other Locations

According to the head of the Latin America Hub, Luís Rezende, who was present at the inauguration, this is just the beginning and Volvo’s plan is bold and very comprehensive, as it will place fast chargers for electric cars throughout the country, facilitating interstate and intermunicipal travel for the owners of these vehicles. The fast charging station is available for both Volvo customers and customers of other brands in São Paulo.

According to the company, R$10 million has been invested in the first phase of installing fast charging stations in the country. Additionally, the equipment will be monitored 24 hours a day to ensure better usage for the driver of an electric model.

Regarding the plan for fast chargers, Volvo plans to install them on Brazilian highways that connect essential destinations and capitals. In total, there will be 5 phases of the 13 electric corridors that will cover 3,250 km starting from São Paulo and connecting capitals such as Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, as well as Uberlândia, Baixada Santista, among other stretches. Overall, the fast charging station will have the capacity to charge two electric cars from Volvo or any brand at the same time.

Volvo Comments On The Inauguration Of The Fast Charging Station

According to João Oliveira, general director of operations and innovation, everyone at the company is happy to have reached a milestone that is difficult to achieve, but being able to travel with electric cars and recharge at Volvo’s first fast charging station demonstrates the company’s intent from the beginning, which is to provide all owners of electric cars the possibility to undertake long-distance trips.

Oliveira states that he came personally to show that, from now on, this is possible. They left Blumenau, recharged in Curitiba, and then headed to the charging station in Cajati. Soon, other Brazilian roads will receive super-fast chargers like this one.

João emphasizes that, just like the almost one thousand fast charging stations that Volvo has spread throughout the country, the fast chargers will not charge for recharging. The company’s goal is to promote electrification and bring it closer to people.

Volvo Focuses On The Electrification Of The Brazilian Matrix

Volvo Cars’ ambition is to become 100% electric by the next decade, and Brazil is already a pioneer, having its entire fleet electrified with electric and hybrid models in its portfolio.

The brand’s first fully electric vehicle arrived in September of last year and currently includes two models, the C40 Recharge and the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, launched just over a month ago. Both vehicles are currently at the top of the ranking of electric car sales, being the best sellers in the national market.

According to João, the decision to make this fleet fully electric was seen as something innovative and bold. Electrification has never been just a niche within the company; it goes much further, connecting to the company’s purposes.
