WEG Supplies Motors for Metso Outotec Vertical Mills for Large Mineral Processing Projects in Brazil
The leading global manufacturer of mining drives and motors, WEG states that its equipment has been selected for several important projects that Metso Outotec is carrying out in mineral processing plants in Brazil. The package of equipment supplied by WEG includes two three-phase induction vertical motors from the Master line, models MGI630 (2,300 kW) and MGI560 (1,600 kW), a medium voltage frequency inverter model MVW3000, and seven 150 hp motors.
WEG mentioned that the orders are focused on the operation of the main vertical mills in the plants in Brazil. Metso Outotec states that its Vertimills provide superior efficiency with high yield and minimal space occupied by the plant.
“Crushing efficiency, reduced media consumption, lower installation cost, minimal maintenance, and minimal wear of the lining make the Vertimill® the lowest total cost of ownership in many applications, significantly improving the profitability of concentrators. Mechanically, the Vertimill is a simple machine with a stirrer screw suspended in the grinding chamber, supported by self-aligning roller bearings and driven by a fixed-speed motor through a planetary gearbox. The capacity of each unit size is relative to the input energy required for the intended grinding; however, the mills have operated with yields exceeding 500 t/h.”
About WEG
Founded on September 16, 1961, in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina, with the skills of an administrator, a mechanic, and an electrician. WEG was born with a purpose different from today; long before considering mining or other operations, the company initially produced only electric motors.
After a while, already in the 1980s, WEG expanded its sales market with the production of electrical components, liquid paints, power transformers, distribution and powder, and electro-insulating varnishes. Thus, WEG established itself not only as a motor manufacturer but also as a complete supplier in the area of industrial electrical systems.
