A study carried out by the CCEE (Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber), wind energy is the cheapest renewable energy source on the market

A study carried out by the Chamber of Commercialization of Electric Energy, the CCEE, concluded that in the years 2015 to 2019, the cheapest renewable energy source was wind energy. According to the chamber, these values take into account the results of the electricity trading process during the analysis period, which were available on February 14, 2020 and updated by the IPCA-IBGE until April 2020.

Also check out other news of the day:

The second most affordable source of energy on the market was biomass, with an average price of R$ 253,5/MWh. Soon the PCH – Small Hydroelectric Power Station appeared, although the value of the event was low, it was still affected by the lack of water. As described in 2017, the hydrological cost increased by 39,5% due to the renegotiation of costs, and the auction value increased by 21% due to the energy deficit in the MRE.

According to the study, the wind energy source became cheaper as a result of the low prices practiced in contracting auctions, despite the additional values of the source, such as the cost of dispatching thermoelectric plants and secondary frequency control due to its intermittent generation. Wind energy registered an average price of BRL 195 per MWh last year, leaving behind biomass plants (BRL 246/MWh), small hydroelectric plants – PHCs (BRL 280/MWh) and solar plants (BRL 321/MWh).
