House known as Balancing Barn, in England, draws attention for appearing suspended and mixing comfort with direct contact with nature

The house called Balancing Barn impresses right away for appearing to float in the air. Located in a rural area near Thorington, England, it has become a highlight for its different and curious appearance.

What stands out the most is that half of the construction is suspended over a sloped terrain, creating a visual effect that intrigues those who pass by. Additionally, the space also serves as luxury accommodation amidst nature.

The project was created by MVRDV, a Dutch architecture firm known for innovative contemporary projects, responsible for developing the idea of this unusual house.

Balancing Barn appears to float, but has a sturdy and well-planned structure

Although it seems to be in the air, the Balancing Barn is completely safe. It rests on a central concrete base, which keeps the entire structure balanced.

The house is 30 meters long and has a cantilever of 15 meters, which makes half of it extend over the terrain without visible support.

To ensure stability, the heavier materials are located in the part that is on the ground. The rest of the structure is intelligently distributed to maintain balance.

From a distance, the house looks small, but surprises upon approaching

Those who see the Balancing Barn from afar may think it is a small common country house. This happens because the project was designed to resemble traditional constructions in the region.

But as one approaches, the surprise appears. The actual size of the house becomes evident, showing that it is much larger than it seems.

This contrast between appearance and reality is one of the most interesting points of the construction.

Interior of Balancing Barn is modern and comfortable

Inside, the house is fully equipped to host guests. Right at the entrance, there is an open kitchen integrated with the dining room.

The space features four double bedrooms, all with bathrooms, offering comfort and privacy. The house can accommodate up to 8 people.

In the suspended part, there is a spacious living room with large windows on three sides. This allows for an open view of the surrounding landscape.

Contact with nature is part of the experience

The Balancing Barn is surrounded by 6 acres of gardens and is within a larger area of 138 acres of nature reserve.

The idea is to provide a tranquil experience close to nature. The house also has skylights, which allow you to see the sky even when it is raining.

The furniture was created by Makkink and Bey, complementing the modern style of the project.

Project received recognition and drew attention worldwide

The Balancing Barn has also gained prominence in the design world. It was nominated for the Dutch Design Award in 2011.

Additionally, it received an honorable mention at the Red Dot Design Award in the architecture category.

MVRDV, a Dutch architecture firm known for innovative contemporary projects, gained even more visibility with this work.

House functions as luxury accommodation in a secluded location

Today, the Balancing Barn can be rented for stays. It offers total privacy, as it is surrounded by trees.

The proposal is to combine comfort, unique design, and contact with nature in one place.

This helps explain why the house continues to draw attention from people all over the world.

The Balancing Barn shows that it is possible to create something simple to understand, but at the same time surprising to see.

Even with a curious appearance, the house combines safety, comfort, and a unique experience for visitors.
